I had my surgery one month ago and I know this sounds weird but I weighed this morning after 2 weeks, and I have lost 38 pounds. The thing that gets me is I had lost 32 pounds 2 weeks ago. so I have only lost 6 pounds this 2 week period. I was hopeing things would not slow down so soon. I know, it's rediculous of me not to be happy with 38# in one month (or so my husband says), but maybe now I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions? Do you have plateaus this early?

I know that around week two or three (some week four) our body takes a slight breather to adjust and catch up. Check in with your "month" board...you'll probably see a few posts of a similar nature! You're doing fine.... Christina S

Cimberly- It's a forum where people that have surgery in the same month get together. Similar to the VA board. Here is a link to November: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/11-2006/ But to find other months you just go to Forums, Show All Forums and then select your "Surgery Date" (month and year). I lived on those boards when I first go here to find out what people were experiencing and when.....most of the real old ones don't have much activity anymore, but can be helpful. Hope that helps! Hey...sounds almost exactly like my progress...by week 2 I had also lost 38 pounds...at my 4 week check up I was down 6 more. So I figured that would be the pace of things...but then at my 6 week check up I was down 12 more pounds. I was really pleased with that. Now I don't have to go back for 6 more weeks. I am sure this journey will have it's ups and downs...so let's just hang in there together.

Great job on the weight loss! I promise you, 38 pounds is just the begining. Your body is just getting ready for a wild and crazy ride of weight loss. You need to give your body a chance to heal. I was (and still am) a slow looser. One good thing about loosing slowly is that your skin has a chance to catch up with the loss. Hang on, give this tool a chance to work. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and getting in your protein, you will loose. I guarentee it!!! Cathy

Starting today I would like for you to take the word plateau from your vocabulary . At least for now . These do not happen at a month out . What does happen sometimes is this .. Your body says " Omg she is starving me to death .. I gotta hold on " And your body slows down . It also goes into shock mode after your surgery as surgery is hard on your body . Your weight loss is great for one month out .To understand how this all works . For the first 6 months your body is basicly in starvation mode . You are not getting in enough calories to hold on to .. so it starts to burn your fat stores .. and the weight comes off . After about 6 months you will need to monitor your calories a little closer and keep that protein coming in ... this will keep your motabolism burning and the fat coming off . The formula is simple : PROTIEN +WATER+EXERCISE = WEIGHTLOSS . Along with a good diet of Protein , Veggies and some good Carbs .. you can be successful at this thang they call WEIGHTLOSS SURG. You can ask anyone that I have ever mentored that during the first few months it is fairly easy to see the pounds come off . But you still need to work at it . Exercise is your key too . You GOTTA MOVE TO LOOSE .. you just have to . I swam for a year .. and was at Goal at my 1 year Surgiversary Date . I have exceeded my goal and maintained now for almost 3 years . So be proud of your weight loss .. Keep up the great work .. and I promise you .. you will no BE DISAPOINTED !! Many hugs and much Love , Natalie

38 pounds in one month is alot! I didn't even loose that much in the first month out. Congrats! Look, slow dowsn are inevitable. You can't keep loosing like you did that first two weeks, which is usually about 75% Water Weight anyway. I will tell you that your gonna have weeks where you loose a lot, some where you loose very little and maybe even a plateau here and there. The thing to keep in mind is this is a marathon, not a sprint. I'm over two years out and I'm still loosing, rather slowly, but I'm still capable of loosing and I might add, it's easier to loose now, then it was years ago. I got below my goal weight of 155 yesterday. You've done remarkable well, there is no reason tobe hard on yourself. Our weightloss patterns all vary. You cannot keep up with an extreme weightloss pace. It's just not healthy really. 10 pounds a month is healthy weightloss overall. You've done 38 lbs. So pat yourself on the back and make yourself a good protein drink and think about the fact that you lost te same amount of weight that my son was when he was 4 1/2 years old.
