calcuim ?
ok so I can't swallow for another 5 weeks and I know about the upcal D but I have tryed crushing the calcuim citrate pills and i just can't stand the taste..I was wondering if anyone uses the Vitachew things they have in Chocalate and Caramel its like 500mg of Calcuim. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today and having a hard time with the calcuim but I do like the chews any suggestions??? when I can start swallowing I will swallow the pills..
One option is the UpCal D powder. You can mix in protein drink, Crystal Light, Propel or whatever else. One scoop is 500 mg.
Another option is Twinlabs Calcium Citrate Wafers. They taste a bit like sweet tarts but a *****alky. I liked them. 2 are 500 mg.
Yet another option is the Citracal Creamy Delights (they are like the Viativs but they are calcium citrate not carbonate). Each is 500 mg but they are 3-4 grams of sugar per and 40 calories. I dump easy so I avoided these plus they tasted too much like candy to me - super sweet. Plus I figured that further out I didn't need another 120-160 cals a day from a vitamin. I'd rather have those cals from food.
Also, Bariatric Advantage makes calcium citrate in mint, chocolate and cinnamon. They are quite chalky to me but many people like them. Not sure how many you have to take for 500 mg.
Good luck!

so in other words they viactivs don't count as calcuim are they ok to take whats the difference with the calcuim citrate and the viativs? do they make anything you dont have to order. My friend gave me a whole bunch of upcal-d and they were fine for a while but then I started to taste it and you have to order that and I ran out so I bought the vitachews lastnite and tryed one and I like it!!!
thank you so much for posting for calcium because I cant seem to get the crushed calium down so ive been bad and skipped it many days.. i figured with my shake i was drinking milk : (( i know i need my calcium but i hate the big white pills i have to crush i need to take 4 of those a day..... so i will go and try to find some of the others you mentioned where can i find them ive looked at target and grocery stores... maybe walmart?

The Vitachews are calcium carbonate. We absorb calcium citrate. So, they really aren't a good choice - since you won't absorb the calcium in them.
The brand that Kathy refers (Citracal) too are calcium citrate, but be careful with them. They sit very heavy with me and some have said that they have a mild dump from them. Plus, like Kathy said...why take in all of those calories for vitamins.
Have you tried the Citracal Petities? They are smaller so I don;t have to grind them up and this works out very well for me. Walmart, Target, Walgreens and other stores carry them, so they are easy to buy.

I still chew my calcium because those great big honking calcium pills are still hard for me to swallow - even though I know I can and it is all in my mind!! I just can't take them! I take the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate chewable chocolate and mint lozenges - I get them from www.vitalady.com but you can also buy them direct from Baraitric Advantage too. Are they the greatest tasting in the world? No a *****alky but I enjoy the chocolate ones as they are sweet and I like the mint because after I have chewed them I don't want to eat as my mouth feels all minty. The chocolate have no sugar in them and the mint has one gram of sugar....
Please always take your calcium - it is very important for our bones, teeth etc etc By the time you notice a deficiency it may already be too late to fix it....

Call me crazy, but I was told we will never be able to swallow calcium pills again. We won't absorb them if we swallow them, citrate or not. I bought the chewable wafers from Vitacost.com. I also have the Chocolate Mint Citrical Citrate Chewables, but I only take them every now and then because of the calories and sugar. The wafers are big, but they are doable. I chew 3 a day.
As far as the other meds, Jess, we weren't allowed to swallow until 8 weeks but i couldn't handle the taste, I would do nothing but gang. So I began to cut up everything into tiny pieces. It was tedious, but it worked. Those 2 months will fly by before you know it.
I'm going to give Jackie a call and verify what we can swallow and what we have to chew.
