HI everyone and to the ones *****sponded I went to the doctor yesterday for my thumbnail. He said what had happened was that i had a cut in my cuticle area which got infected and caused my thumbnail to peel off.. I have to put an anti fungal topical med on it for a while . But he also said that I should take a vitamin A supplement. While checking my fingernails he asked me, "ARe your fingernails always this white?" I said yes and they stay cold and hurt alot sometimes. He said, "You have Raynauds syndrome" Oh boy! So he started me on 2 low dose enteric coated aspirin per day and told me to stop smoking since it interfered with circulation. So he put me on a med to help me quit called chantix (however, my medicaid has to have prior authorization for it) so it will be another week or so before I can get it. He said to not be outside in weather that is below 50 without gloves on. It could be worse..so I am counting my blessings! Hope everyone is well and I wanted to be early and wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Hugs JudyB

Hi Judy, well at least you managed to solve the mystery of your fingernails. Just a thought but have you checked with your surgeon that you can take aspirin as I thought that was on our list on drugs not to take as they can give you an ulcer in your pouch? Jackie

Hi Jackie No, I haven't checked with my surgeon , but I haven't taken any yet as I was questioning myself as to whether I should take it or not. I am going to call the surgeon's office on Monday. hugs Judyb

You are right to be concerned - I would not take them until my surgeon okay it as aspirin are on the do not take list. I do not know if the coating makes any difference or not. I suspect not... Jackie

Hi Judy, I too have Raynauds. You can buy thin gloves that don't cover the fingertips. I wear them when my hads get cold or crampy and can work and type with them on. You can get them thru those 'Dr. Leonard's type medical catalogs' for about $10.00. They really help. I also have bought very light weight gloves in the fingernail polish area in Walmart. I think they sell them with the thought of putting lotion on your hands and sleeping in the gloves. But they work great for indoor finger/hand warmth if you don't need your fingertips free. They are also great to wear under heavy gloves as another layer of warmth. Did you know that our feet and toes can also be affected by Raynauds? If your feet are cold I'd suggest one pair of thin socks under 1 pair of thick socks. Good luck. Raynauds is easy enough to manage!!! And yes, I agree...it could be worse! May I politely say to try to quit smoking as poor circulation is what Raynauds and so many other diseases feed on? easier said than done. I'll be pulling for you Ginny
