Thank you EVERYONE for your prayers
Just wanted to update everyone with what was going on - I had some symptoms on and off for a couple weeks - but then over this past weekend while I was trying to catch up on some transcription at home - my stomach started really burning - that is the only way I can describe it - it hurt a lot and nothing seemed to help it. I was talking to a nurse friend of mine (who basically stayed at the hospital when I had surgery) and he insisted I call Dr. Schirmer's office - with reluctance I called them and was told it could be nothing - but it could be something VERY serious and to come to the ER immediately. They took blood because doc thought I had pancreatitis and hooked me up to an IV because I was dehydrated - the blood work was all fine - they made me drink a GI ****tail and took me for some x-rays - not sure exactly what those said - but the doctor I did have called a surgery resident to come down and consult. She came and talked to me and told me she thought I had an ulcer and Dr. Schirmer was still there so she was going to go and talk to him. She came back and he thinks I have an ulcer too. I have to take more Prilosec and watch for fever, chills, etc...and call tomorrow to schedule another EGD for next Tuesday. That is all I know for now - I will update as soon as I know more.
I really really appreciate all the prayers - you are all fantastic!
Thank you so much,
Andrea
Thanks Stephanie - I felt like I was there forever - got there before 3 and didn't get out of there until sometime after 9pm. I never at any point thought they were going to admit me - but it seems they did think about it. So glad they didn't. I'm home and sitting here trying to drink so I don't get dehydrated again and already starting to feel bad again. Grrrrrr. I am calling the office tomorrow and scheduling that EGD - hopefully after a good nights sleep I will feel better.
Thanks for thinking of me!
Andrea
Andrea - I am so glad that you are feeling a bit better - I thought it sounded like an ulcer but it could be one of a few things - thankfully all treatable.... and they let you go home so they are thinking they have it under control for now.... once you have had the EGD they should know for sure and can then make sure that you have the right treatment. I know it must be pretty scary though....
Hope you stay out of pain...
