Dumping?
Hi all-
I have a question about dumping. I had some soup at a restaurant recently that was so yummy, but I could tell it was full of cream (not sure what other things made it so yummy, but certainly not the healthiest of choices). It stayed down, but I got so freakin' hot and could hardly wait to get outside into the cool air. I also felt a little agitate (I get that way when warm though!) Was I dumping? I wasn't having any other "symptoms" except being super warm. It was one of the more humid days we've had recently up here in NoVA...so at the time I just chalked it up to being warm that day...but it happened again (to a much lesser degree) again yesterday after I tasted something that I think may have had too much sugar in it.
Thoughts? I'm way too young for for it to be a menopause hot flash!

Could be dumping or low blood sugar. Sometimes our post-op bodies overreact to carbs by releasing too much insulin driving blood sugar down too low.
Symptoms of low sugars are often - sweating, clamminess, shaking, slow brain thoughts, etc.
If it happens more times, I'd suggest getting a glucometer so if you feel funky you can look and see.
I had low blood sugar today. Just felt funky. It has been 4 hours since I ate something and it caught up with me. I have a glucometer and my sugar was in the 60s which is when I can feel it coming on.

Sure sounds a little like it. Be glad that was ALL that happened. I have been dumping alot lately since I have been eating more and more foods. I guess I could use the glucometer to see if it is low blood sugar like Kathy suggested. Either way it is from the sugars and sure makes me feel like crap.
Call the restaurant and ask for the ingrediants to the soup. I bet there was alot of hidden sugar in it !!!

Hey Christina,
I have dumped twice since my surgery in July. The first time it was minor. When I was 2 weeks out and was told I could eat soft foods. My daughter made instant mashed potatoes for dinner. I got a spoon of the potatoes in a small bowl. About 30 minutes later I was just like you described only worst. I was so hot, I literally peeled off my clothes and got in a cold shower. It wore off and I was fine in about 30-45 minutes. My second incident with "SUGAR" was 10 times worst. I made the mistake of eating a very small piece of BD cake. I thought I would die!!! That was or had to be DUMPING full blown. My stomach swelled up making me look like I was 8 months pregnant (with gas) I had palpatations to the point I thought my heart would beat out of my body. I had trouble walking due to an unsteadiness in my head. My husband said I felt as though I was running a temperature of 105º. I became very irratable and no body could talk to me. I was sick the entire night and vowed to never eat anything with sugar in it ever again. So far sugar is the only thing that does that to me. Most everything else just makes me throw up.
Lots of Love
Kathy
