Nasty....just plain nasty....
Ok...first of all...it is not what you think...LOL...I know how some of you are.
I have developed a second heart arrythmia...and for the past two weeks have been on digoxin...in addition to my regular meds...hoping that would "fix" it.
Well....it is still there...LOL...and I am thinking...ok...I am only 37...and have TWO heart meds for two different things. My younger brother also has a heart condition...though not as serious as mine. It is really wierd...but we think we know why....and that is a long story I don't feel like typing...LOL.
So, Friends, I was taken off of the dig today....which I am fine with...but I was put on potassium....even though my labs look AWESOME!!!! I did run by to see my surgeon first...LOL...cause the cardiologist was talking about me trying to also get in bicarb....via diet soda....or baking soda...LOLOLOL>>>>>AS IF!
Apparently....potassium works kind of like magnesium from what was told to me today by several docs. There is always more in your cells than in the blood. So...I was told that it may be low (I am already on mag suppliments for heart/leg things) since they are measuring the blood level on me. I was also told...it may not help fix my problem...and I may just have to live with it. I informed them...that I live with 3 children...so I know what ANNOYING is....LOL So...we are trying this. I was told..."It can't hurt" LOLOL...now...I don't know after taking it for the first time.
So...I just tried the nasty potassium for the first time. Nasty does not even begin to describe it. I had to hold my nose to take two swigs. You are supposed to mix it with something...but I don't know if I can do that...and drink the whole thing...cause it changes the taste of the drink. LOL....Has anyone ever taken it as a shot with chaser????? Cause I am SERIOUSLY contemplating that...or I know...that I will end up giving it all to Ralph...LOL. I have not even finished the last dose. It is that nasty.
Just figured I would share my lovely potassium experience. If anyone has any ideas how to make the stuff not taste so nasty...or how you were able to get it down...please let me know. I can tell you that it takes up a lot of my pouch just for the dose. I know that our stomachs stretch a little after time...but good grief....there is still not that much room in there...and I am having to put nasty stuff in it. UUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Stephanie
Ok...you have cracked me up. I don't have a dog...lol...not even one named Ralph. It is a saying here...I am a southern girl...what can I say? LOL
There is a radio station here that does parodies...and they did one about...um...Ralph. I will have to see if I can buy there CD and get it to you somehow. I bet it will make you laugh!
Stephanie
Hey sweetie,
I know almost NOTHING about potassium, except that I was rushed to the ER "back in the day" with NONE in my system.
Anyway, I went thru a huge bout of charlie horses, and tried potassium supplements.. they were pill form. Just a thought, couldn't you just swallow a pill or three? Check with your doc, but liquids are always worse than pill form, and if you can tolerate them.. check it out!
Best of luck girly, hope it helps!
Wendy
Hey Wendy!
Thanks for your reply! I know a little bit about potassium....but I am used to GIVING it...instead of having to TAKE it. BIG DIFFERENCE....LOL The doc and I did talk about pills...but lately I am having a bit of a problem with large pills...and have temporarily even had to stop taking my fish oil for cholesterol bc of it. It is better from an absorption standpoint anyway if I take the liquid I guess...
Guess I will just have to keep holding my nose...LOL
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
Are you taking the effervescent Potassium tabs that are orange flavored? If so, mix it with a little orange juice instead of water and it is not so bad.
Can you take potassium tabs? I used to take them. The ones I had were a small tab that I took 2-3 times per day. That might work for you.
Good luck!
Hugs,
Robin
Hey Robin!
Thanks for the ideas....may ask about them when I go back in a couple of weeks...but after discussing current difficulties swallowing pills and absorption issues....the dr decided to give me liquid. I may ask about the effervescent ones, though. I will have to do some research and see if it is the same as what I am taking.
Thanks again!!!! Have a great night!
Stephanie
