Support groups??
Hi again everyone, I was just reading over some of these posts and noticed some go to support groups, I live in fredericksburg Va and I know my Doctor mentioned they have a support group called the stables club how good are these for me to go too, my surgery is november 15th and ya im alittle nervous but excited at the same time. is it worth going too? what do they do at support groups.
thank you... Beth
Is your doctor Halmi or Anez?
I go to the Staples Club meeting at Fair Oaks Hospital that is run by Dr. Anez's nutritionist Sally. Meeting is the first Monday of the month usually so it'll be this Monday at 6:30 pm. Other group run by Fair Oaks is Journey Together run by hospital staff (bariatric and nutritionists). That is the 3rd Monday of the month.
An informal group gets together at Panera at Fairfax Town Center on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:30 am.
The support groups at Fair Oaks can have a topic or be a demonstration or discussion. I get alot from them. A good chance to ask questions and be among those that have gone before you and learn. Always good to know that what you are experiencing is normal. This Monday's speaker is a doc from DC. He is going to talk about avoiding kidney stones after surgery.

Hi Beth,
Dr Halmi also has a Staples Club on the first Thursday of each month at Potomac Hospital at 6.30pm. Dr Halmi almost always attends his own support group so you do have a medical doctor present and as he is the surgeon he can answer any medical qurestions you may have. I go to that one and also the informal one at Fair Oaks Panera that Kathy was talking about. Additionally, Sue Baker and I are starting a Support Group in Fredericksburg/Stafford Border on the 15th of this month and it will be the third wednesday of every month. So you can go to any and all of these Support Groups...... I personally think the people that go to Support Groups have a better chance of success because they network better and there is almost always someone who has a suggestion or an answer to any queries you may have. Sometimes it is just good to know you are not alone.....
