Hello Everyone... Like a few others, I have been MIA all summer. I had 5 months to plan a wedding and I am glad it is OVER!!! Stress is an ugly thing!!! My husband is happy to have the woman he met back. LOL Now I need to get back to my "normal" life and can get back on track with eating, drinking water & of course...protein. So, my questions is... what kind of protein to you all take? I usually do the ready to drink protein drinks because I really love them BUT they don't have enough protein in 1 can. I know some of you mix your protein with coffee...which is what I am thinking I will have to do. I don't want to waste a ton of money to find one so I figured I would come here to help narrow it down to a few choices. I hope everyone is doing well!! Hi Erika, - I drink Whey Protein by IDS and drink between 75 and 100g of protein a day this way. I don't drink tea or coffee so this works for me - quick and easy! Congratulations on the wedding - you look beautiful! Jackie

Erika- Congrats on your wedding! I drink the liquid proteins from by either Profect at www.protica.com or New Whey by IDS (available at the Vitamin Shoppe). They have 25g of protein in 2.9oz! A variety of flavors are available by Profect. The New Whey only comes in 2 flavors (Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch I think). I'm currently out, but the powder I was using that worked for me was Unjury unflavored (available at www.unjury.com). Best to you! Christina S

I'm just curious and also confused. I had to attend the pre-op wellness program yesterday that my surgeon requires, and the nut said that we should NOT be needing protein drinks when we are 1-2 years out from surgery. She said we should be getting ALL of our protein from regular food by that time. She said the whole idea of this surgery is not to be stuck consuming protein shakes and bars for the rest of your life, but to eat real and healthy food. So I am confused because so many people on here swear by the protein drinks even after 4-5 years (and even more) out. She also said that post op I would only need 65g of protein per day, but I see here that people consume much more than that ?????? I know that standard answer is follow your surgeon's advice, but.... Yes, follow your surgeon's advice, and... the surgeons give very different advice. WELL, I take my cues from my body. I have gotten adept at listening to what it is telling me. For one thing I eat little meat, very few eggs. I do eat lots of yogurt and cottage cheese, but that gets tiresome everyday. My body likes the drinks and bars and I am thriving. If my body tells me to, like right now, eat raw vegetables, I do that. If it tells me 'kraut and sausage, I eat that. When I upped my protein from 50g/day to 100g/day my hair stopped falling out. My surgeon had told me 50 g/day was required. My protein maven, Natalie, told me (us all, really) that that is certainly not enough. What I am doing works for me. That's what most of us post--what we have found that works for us. After you have had your surgery, you will find what works for you. In the beginning, though, following your doctor's advice is the best course. Lois

Thanks for the advice. I knew that doing what my body tells would be the answer, but as a pre-op, it is all a little confusing. So I guess I'll chill and do what my body tells me when I cross that bridge. Right now, I am anxiously awaiting hearing from my insurance co. So cross your fingers for me By the way - your new photo looks so great Lois! Do you know a German teacher named Christa Bale at Norfolk Collegiate School? Thanks Again, Robin

Thanks so much for the compliment!!! I am not one to say I think I am pretty but I have to say, I felt like a princess the day I got married....and I felt so beautiful. (i have a full pic on my profile) Congrats to you on getting married. When is the big date? PLEASE give yourself more then 5 months. I stressed so much. I didn't like the person I became. I had a vision of what I wanted.....and in the end, it didn't really matter. The stress I put myself though was silly... We ended up not doing what we orignally talked about so we ended up inviting family and a few friends because of the space & money. Our vows were personalized, the food was great and it couldn't have been more special. In the end, it is about you and your fiance and everything else is just fluff. I CAN NOW SAY THAT!!! Thanks for the protein ideas... I bought so much stuff before I had the surgery and wasted sooooooo much money. I would like to try 2-3 different things and then decide what I want to change to. I do need more protein. My last tests were good but I can tell I am feeling sluggish and need a pick me up. What better then protein right?? Thanks again Nat!! Hugs! Erika

For me it is Syntrax Nectar Tealicious, Cappucino, Fuzzy Navel; Designer Whey Vanilla Praline in cold coffee with ice; Isopure pre-mixed in the big bottles 40 g protein/bottle. I can afford these. What I LOVE and can no Longer afford are the AchievOne drinks. I also use lots of bars: Protein Plus Blueberry, Detour Buzz and Power Crunch. Lois
