Favorite Protien drink
I LOVE AchievOne drinks. I am on a very tight budget right now though, and it is pricey. For lower calorie counts and reasonable prices I use Syntrax Nectar. I buy the jugs on Ebay. They vendors I have used combine shipping.
For convenience I buy Isopure ready-to-drink. There are times I am not able to mix up a drink so I keep the Isopure handy at work and at home. It isn't tasty, just okay--BUT I can buy it locally at GNC. I bought a Gold Card and get 20% off the first 7 days of the month. Was really able to cash in two months ago with the Isopure was on BOGO AND I got 20% off on top of that. Makes the 'only okay' nature of the drink quite tolerable.
I get most of my daily protein from drinks and bars. Thank goodness for them. Don't know what I would do without them.
Good luck,
Lois
I love to add chocolate unjury to my coffee and freeze it and blend it.....it tastes great! I hated the EAS Advant Edge and the slimfast lo carb drinks.....I also tried some isopure and could not tolerate any of it! I thought it tasted gross....it is worth it to me for me to just order the unjury online at unjury.com and they also have sample sizes (which is what I ordered the first time). I have also had it with sugar free hot chocolate, but not often because of the caffeine.....but, I couldn't taste it at all in the hot chocolate or the coffee......I have put it int hot coffee as well, but prefer it cold....Good luck! My fav is Elite Whey by Dymatize. Right now I shake up some vanilla or butter cream toffee with milk and pour in the coffee. Makes a yummy drink for my way into work The chocolate is really good too, but I'm on my coffee mix now and haven't had the chocolate in a while.
As someone else mentioned, stock up on samples. I had a bunch ready for after my surgery, and yes my taste changed. Pre-surgery I loved the Profect because it was so convenient. Unfortunately, my stomach didn't agree after the surgery. Too bad I had bought a case (I still have 6 tubes left). The same situation with some of the other powders; I liked them before but not after. Many places will send you free samples, too, if you inquire.
Happy tasting
Julie
I use Chocolate Unjury - you can get it online at www.unjury.com ~ I have tried others and this is the one drink I like and have liked since I had surgery in Oct. 2005. I like mine mixed with 8 oz. skim milk - add tsp. of instant decaf coffee, tsp of decaf/no sugar added french vanilla international coffee, a 1/2 pk of sf choc carnation breakfast and a scoop of choc unjury. I mix it in my drink mixer and it is like a milk shake...I have one of these every morning and get between 25-30 gr protein. Your tastes will change after surgery so don't be surprised.
When I was newly post op - I couldn't tollerate sweet, so I used 8 oz. skim milk, 1 scoop choc unjury and 1/2 tsp baking cocoa. The cocoa cut the sweet taste for me and I really had no problem with it.
Also, I used the unflavored unjury to add to different foods...Unjury also has sample packs so you don't have to buy a large quantity in case it doesn't work for you or if you need convenience.
Good luck with your protein quest.
Like Lois, I love the AchievOne protein drinks. They can be expensive, however, Bariatriceating.com offers sales from time to time, so I stock up on a couple cases at a time. In addition to the taste, another reason I like this one is that it is PACKED with vitiamins and minerals, in additon to the Protein. Many of the other protein supplements are just protein. I feel I get more bang for my buck, more nutrition for my calories, more yummy for my tummy!
Regarding the discussion about supplements vs not, I'd like to add that I too feel it's essential to focus on a balanced meal, and fiber is an essential element. Recently I've had to see a Gastrointentional specialist because of some damage to my lower, internal system, probably caused by not enough fiber and ucky constipation. I still supplement with one protein drink per day just because I don't eat enough, and it's easy!
Thanks for the question!
Hugs,
Tammy
