Have questions about my mother who had gastric bypass
Hello. I happened to come across this website by doing a search on Dr. Jan Holwick in LoMoor,Virginia. My mother had gastric bypass performed by her back in June of 2003 but also had some sort of tumor removed as well as a second surgery which consisted of Dr. Holwick repairing a hernia. My mother seems to have had difficulty ever since the operations. Now she has several hard "lumps" from her pubic area up to around her navel and says she feels sick every time she eats and when she's up any amount of time doing anything physical. She believes it may be the hernia acting up again, however, feels there may also be problems from the surgery. She called Allegheny Regional where the surgery was performed and was told that Dr. Holwick no longer is there. She's also having difficulty in finding another surgeon who will see her to rule out what her problems are since Dr. Holwick was the one who operated. If anyone out there has any information that could be helpful or possibly knows how to get in touch with Dr. Holwick I and my mother would be most grateful. Personally, I don't believe she should be having these kinds of problems and can't help but wonder if there isn't some underlying effect from the surgery or possibly happened during surgery. So again, if you know how to get in touch with Dr. Holwick or know of another reliable physician that is not located within the Beckley,WV area or even have any information related to what you think my mother could be going through please let me know as soon as possible. Thank You.
The program at Low Moor was closed, so I have heard, because there were so many patients who developed complications. One woman (WLS patient)in the town where I work had an instrument left inside her by the doctor at Low Moor. It wasn't long after that that the program folded.
I just looked in my old Roanoke Yellow Pages and found Electa Healthcare which lists the hospital at Low Moor as a member. Their Regional Physician Referral number is listed as: 1-888-633-9944. Other hospitals are in this group. Maybe you can contact the main healthcare company and get help that way.
They also list a website: www.electahealthcare.com
I will continue looking in the phone book for anymore numbers that might be of help.

While we do not give any medical advice here sweety .. My first suggestion to your mother is to get to a doctor or surgeon right away . Preferably one that deals with Bariatric Surgery . The type your mom had . Or you can go on Google and type in the doctors name to see if he comes up . I tried it and got a possible listing for a Jan Holwick.
I too had hernias with my RNY and know of the lumps she is experiencing first hand . I am dealing with it now . Please Please get her to a surgeon now or at the earliest tommorow . This is nothing to play with .
This site offers a Physicial Search .. try doing it by state to see what you come up with .. and also post to the WV board .
I am so sorry your Mom is going thur this .. please tell her we here in VA are praying for her .. and if there is anything I can do to help , I will email me at [email protected]
Good night and bless you both .
