Burning Back Muscles

Just wondering if any of you have experienced back muscles that have a burning sensation? I have an area in my upper back where the muscle(s) are sore and feel like they are stinging or burning. I went to my PCP yesterday but he did not have any idea the cause and could only suggest physical therapy. I felt that perhaps it has something to do with the quick weight loss? Any ideas out there? Loraine, Its highly possible that its WLS related because when we loose weight the fat isn't there anymore sort of "packing" every thing in. Holly, my girlfriend, just had to have surgery on her knee because of a damaged nerve. Good luck and I hope you get relief soon. Keith 310/185/At Goal

Hi Lorraine - I am having the same thing in my neck/shoulder area - has been going on for a few weeks and is making me crazy. The doctor has me on Vicodin and Lidoderm patches. I also just bought a back support bra and another back support type item that goes over your bra and started back at Curves yesterday. I am hoping these will help this pain- if not I will be having physical therapy too. I hope you feel better soon. Andrea

Thanks Keith and Andrea,,,,,,,,,,,,I feel pretty sure that it has to do with the loss and just wondered if anyone else was having similar problems. Thanks for the encouragement,,,,,,,,Lorraine

Lorraine, sometimes when my body is readjusting to my weight loss I will have back and joint pain for a few weeks until it adjusts and then it goes away. I contribute it to the fact that my center of gravity is changing because the bulk I was carrying is missing. I find tylenol, heating pads & muscle rubs such as icy hot to help. Courtney

I have had it but not in the same location on my back. Mine was on the left side, roughly the spleen area, radiating upward. It started at about 3 months out and lasted for 2 months. I discovered that mine was heavily influenced by financial concerns (of the IRS type). Lying down was the only thing that relieved it other than concentrating on RELAXING the muscles, using relaxation exercises. It will go away. Mine has. Lois

Hi Lorraine, I, too, had back pain after RNY, but mine was in my lower back. I had physical therapy and exercised a lot, to no avail. Guess what it turned out to be? Excess skin! The weight of my panicula (sp) tummy fat was pulling downward and causing so much lower back pain. After my lower body lift, all the pain disappeared. Perhaps your upper back pain is being caused by sagging breasts. If so, only a breast reduction or lift will solve your problem. Just a thought! Hugs, Karen

I had the same thing and also had it after my children were born 30+ years ago. I still believe it was from the epidural. And yes, it feels like a torch. I hope you get some relief.
