Ok so i am going to my seminar august 15th hoping to have surgery in a couple of months, i am 27 and have 1 daughter and want more kids. Can anyone give me any success stories about getting pregnant after surgery and having children to ease my mind that having kids after the surgery is OK and what about the weight gain?

Hey Jessica, I had surgery Oct 3 2003. Lost about 125 pounds. Before surgery I was told I couldn't have kids due to my weight issues. In July 2005 my husband and I got married and ended up getting pregnant that same weekend. I had a beautiful baby girl March 22 2006. She weighed 7lbs 1oz and was 19" long. I just took her to her 4 month check-up a couple weeks ago and she is up to 15lbs and 26" long. I had no problems during my pregnancy and have a healthy happy baby today. Please feel free to visit the Post-op Pregnancy board. There are many women on there who have had surgery and are either pregnant or TTC (trying to conceive). http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/ Just make sure you do what you can to wait the amount of time your surgeon recommends before you TTC so your body is healed. After the surgery many women become extremely fertile so talk to your doctor about what kind of B/C is best to use. As far as the weight gain. I only gained 19lbs during my pregnancy and dropped most of it by my 6 week check-up. Every woman is different though. Some gain more and some actually continue to loose during the first trimester. Again, feel free to check out the preggo board. The women there can answer any questions/concerns you have. There is also another board on this site that some of us have started hanging out on. It's for WLS Parents. This board has been kind of slow for a while now but we are trying to get it going. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/parenting If you have any other questions please check out either one (or both) of the boards I listed above plus you are more then welcomed to email me any time. Here is a link to the pictures of my baby girl (Sarah Elizabeth). The password for all 3 albums is baby_girl06. www.picturetrail.com/tia07 Good luck and please keep in touch. PS... you don't need to wait till you have WLS to join in on any of the boards. Please come by any time. Hugs Teresa Mommy to Sarah ~ 3/22/06

Hi Jessica, I too want to have more children. In fact I wasnt gonna have this surgery if I could get pregnant. lol I have 2 girls now. ages 1 and 3. I am 26. So alot of ways in the same boat. My doc told me it would be really easy to become pregnant to be extreamly careful and to wait 15 months. I wouldnt worry about it.. What part of P town are you from? lol Im in Deep Creek right at the line... Talk soon!! Autumn

so did u just have surgery? I really want to do this and I was thinking I should wait till after I have another one but I didnt want to gain even more weight and have problems while pregnant because I would be so large, I guess you waited just right after you had your second one. We have to talk more. I live in Portsmouth off of Frederick Blvd and turnpike I go down George Washington to get home. My Seminar date is August 15th and the Doctor I want is Spencer as well. I am just so nervous yet very excited. My daughter is 2 1/2 and will be 3 in Jan i dont want to wait to long after because I want them to be close together, i figure I will wait itleast a year....

hi jessica, i didnt get pregnant for 10 years after my oldest, then after i lost my first 40 pounds, my periods were regular every month, then 15 months post op i was pregnant!! my son was 6 pounds. i gained about 23 pounds and lost it all in one week after delivery. i would be careful not to let yourself get pregnant until you are close to goal, there was no way i was gonna waste my pain and agony to get pregnant so early, i mean insurance is only gonna pay once! i was not going to blow it, there are many who get pregnant too early after surgery and never loose all the weight. just make sure you are ready for that. good luck!!

It sounds like you have the same concerns I had! I had thought about the surgery for many years but figured I would not be allowed to have children because of the weight you gain. I put off even looking into the procedure for that reason. But after taling to my surgeon he informed me that not only can I have children (should wait until I am at least 18 months post-op), but people who have children after the surgery tend to have healthier babies! These Babies are at a lower risk for everything, including things like ADD. So I hope that makes you feel better! Post Op patients also statistically have an easier Pregnancy, since they we are ower in weight the risks of high blood pressure or gesational diabetes. Anyway I wish you the very best on your journey! Vicki
