Could there be a mix up?
I was assigned a low fat low calorie diet to shrink my liver, then told not to eat or drink after midnight the day of surgery.. thats for gastric bypass. No bowel prep, no liquid diet? The office has confused my surgery before, but is there a chance that this is the regiment to follow before going in for RNY lap? or does it sound like lap band to yall? I thought that there was more involved preop for RNY. I am using commonwealth surgeons at st. marys.
It doesn't sound like a mix up to me! While some doctors have strict regimens prior to surgery, others don't. My doctor didn't make me do a diet before...no liquid diet no any diet and no bowel prep. In retrospect I wish that I had done liquids the day before but it was not at all required.
Good luck on your surgery!
Christine
Mine was the same as everyone else, they just said no food/drink after midnight and suggested I eat lightly the night before. I'd take this suggestion very seriously, all I had was some icecream and a few chips and my gas after the surgery was awful. I know that probably had little to do with it, but I can't imagine had I eaten meat or something. Oh I'm so glad I didn't do that.

I used Dr. Hutcher at Commonwealth Surgeons and did not have any special requirements other than no eating or drinking after midnight the day of surgery. I am very active in the support group and with the surgeons office's and it is my understanding that everyone will be going on the liver shrinking diet preop now so that is not too unusual to me. If you want visitors then e mail me the details of your surgery and your full name and I will stop by during your stay. I live about two miles from the hospital.

I had planned Lapro but ended up open. The day before I drank Fleet with cleaned me out. I also ate light because nothing stayed in me. If it would make you feel better, FLEET is sold at Walmart etc, you can follow the instructions and clean yourself out. They did tell me to eat light only because everything was coming out of me, but other than that they said nothing after midnight and I would be fine.
GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations on your upcoming Big Day! I see that nobody else has really had to do to much pre-surgery, lucky them! And count your blessings if you do not have to do anything extra! I am only on the first day of the Clear, Low Fat, Sugar Free Liquid diet and am getting anxious about making it until Wednesday afternoons surgery .
It must depend on the doctor. My doctor is having me do clear liquids for several days. My surgery is on the 9th and so today (the 5th) I started with the clear liquid sugar free diet + 1 protein drink, I get the same tomorrow and then on the 7th it is just the clear sugar free liquids (no protein) with a bowel prep at 5:00 PM and the 8th the same with the liquids and a bowel prep at 9:00 AM , then nothing after midnight.
Good Luck & Best Wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hey There,
I had my surgery at St. Mary's and went through Commonwealth and I didn't have to do anything but the liver shrinking diet also. I was told not to eat anything after midnight the night before my surgery. I did fine and didn't have any complications whatsoever. Dr. Hutcher did my surgery and I wouldn't have anyone else to care for me if I had it to do over. He's a very "GOOD" doctor and you are in excellent hands.
Lots of Love
Kathy
