Good Morning VA! I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a friend who has tested for sleep apnea and needs a cpap machine. Where can she get one from? Thanks for your help. Courtney

The place who tested her should have hooked her up w/ a home health care like Roberts home medical, or I deal w/ American Home Patient. They will have someone come and set her up. Good Luck.

She might want to call her insurance and find out who a durable equipment company is that they work with. Rich and I got ours from Apria down in Alexandria. Found out from the insurance company. Kathy

Usually the sleep testing center and pulmonary specialist will advise which companies are available, and cross check with the insurance co's...they will usually come out to your house and set you up...

Hey Ross, While that's a nice gesture, you can't transfer a CPAP from one person to another. When I was going through the preop testing, both of my parents had CPAP machines that they weren't using (they should be), so I thought maybe I could use one of theirs. It was pointed out to me that a CPAP has a prescription kind of like glasses, it's pretty specific to you. So I had to get my own. Which, even with my crappy insurance, was covered. Julie

I got mine from the same place as Kathy (Apria) because my insurance would cover it (mostly). She should start with her insurance first and find out what her options are. Hope all is well! Christina S

Hi Courtney! I'm going with Kathy and Christina on this one -- have her call the insurance company. I have what is quite possibly the worst insurance ever, and they covered it. They only cover it for three months at a time, but they cover it. The sleep center should fax over the sleep study results to the home health place (I dealt with Apria too) and then you call them to set up a "class" to learn how to use the thing and get the right headgear. (now if I'd use it like I should, I'd really be getting somewhere. ) Good luck, Julie
