Hello Melinda, Ive been trying to reply to your private email all morning -- my response keeps coming back to me as "server timed out" ...havent a clue if it's YOUR server or MY server, but for some reason they are NOT playing well together. Not sure if you'll ever get my email, but since I put a lotta time in typing it, Im gonna make darn sure you at least see it VIA a POST! Anyway, not sure if any of the info will help you, now that you're thinking about staying in VA-Beach -vs- Colonial Beach [never heard of that place]... but if the 2 hotels don't suite your fancy, I highly recommend you try the PET SITE I listed. Very user friendly for us Fur-Mommy's and Daddy's. Good luck - happy hunting - Lei ::::::::: CUT AND PASTE OF ORIGINAL EMAIL BELOW :::::::: G'morning Melinda!! Wow, another AUGUST baby, huh? We have several B'days this month - it would appear there were a lotta parents, back in December, feeling the winter chills and trying to stay warm under the blankets! As far as hotels on or near the beach. I can tell you first hand, JULY and AUGUST is a tough month, it's the peak SUMMER trade. Wendy and I tried to rent some rooms at the Hilton (on the boardwalk) and/or the Ramada (also on the boardwalk) about 2 weekends ago, and damn if they were not ALL sold out. I was shocked. However, I don't think you're going to find anything "reasonable" ON the boardwalk. Summer travelers drive the rates way high. If you start calling around, or websearching, avoid any that have PACIFIC or ATLANTIC Avenue in the address, that means it's either RIGHT on the beach, or one street back and those rates are gonna suck. Anything further down, Baltic, Mediteranean, should be a little more cost effective. OR, the best thing, might be to find something OFF the beaten path. I recommended two hotels to Natalie yesterday that are about 8 miles from the beach [look in the "Lei, Wendy, Natalie" thread that Patty in VA started, the hotel info and links are in that] .... because they're further inland, they're not only going to be a little more reasonable, but they're hopefully NOT sold out. Your biggest challenge is going to be the "small pets" ....when Paul and I moved here, we spent 4 weeks in hotels, until our furniture arrived and our house was ready. We had two big ol' fat fluffy kitty-kats, so we had to stay at a hotel that was also pet friendly - now that was like pulling teeth. Oh, and of course, we come out in the middle of JULY 2003 (moved courtesy of the Navy) so the entire time we're paying hotel costs, it's the PEAK summer months, ugh. Anyway, the place we ended up staying at was the Holiday Inn in Chesapeake - they accepted pets, very nice place, reasonable, etc. It worked for us, cause it put Paul near his work and not fighting traffic. It probably WON'T WORK for you, because it's about 30 minutes from the beach, unless that doesnt bother you? That's the only place I can recommend "personally" because Ive stayed there - that being said, here are two others that you could check into - havent a clue if they're reasonable or not, based on your expectations, but their site says they accept pets. Also, I plugged in your arrival dates of August 13 - 16th and they showed vacancies. Econo-lodge, TownCenter - $72 per night, Virginia Beach boardwalk - 8 miles 3637 BONNEY RD - Virginia Beach, VA, United States 23452 Red Roof Inn - Virginia Beach - $90 per night 196 Ballard Court, Virginia Beach Here is a great website for people w/pets - when it comes to traveling, its the same site we used when we traveled cross country with our cats. It helped us to find various hotels throughout the country that we stayed in. http://www.peoplewithpets.com/ If you use the PET SITE above, just plug in your interested location (Virginia Beach) and on the next screen, the dates you're wanting to stay. It'll pull up a list of ALL the hotels in the general area, including NewportNews, Hampton, Chesapeake, etc. So if you're okay with 'driving' to and from the beach in hopes of saving money, some of those might work for you too. Paul (da hubby) is back on land and he's taking a week's vacation the same week you're talking about coming out here. Not sure if we'll be in town the entire time or not, since he wants to "do stuff" before he deploys, but if we are, I'd love to meet you out at the beach - maybe for some swimming? breakfast? lunch? Let me know what you end up working out and we'll try to fit something in. Good luck - hope this info helps - Lei ::::::::::::::::::::::: END OF EMAIL ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

You're welcome, glad you got it - I noticed my "3rd" attempt NEVER came back as a "time out" so was hoping it had made it through. Let us know how that hotel arrangements turn out - people post alot about places to stay in VaBeach and it'll be nice to have a realm of choices to toss out to them - to either use or avoid. Have fun!!
