Winchester, VA????

My Dr told me today that as of yesterday (1-Aug) the hospital in Winchester opened up a new Bariatric Surgery Center. I can not find anything about it online. I live in West Virgina and that would be much closer for me than the 2 hours I am driving to Woodbridge. Does anyone know about this??? TIA

I was told that Winchester used to do them but stopped due to complications. Who knows if that is true or not. However, why do you drice to Woodbrige? You doc. practices out of Fair Oaks too with Dr Anez ? Best Wishes, Susan

Thanks for the reply. I was told that they quit doing them in Winchester becasue the malpractice insureance got to be too expensive, but my PCM said that now the hospital is opening it's own center. I drive to Woodbridge because we used to live there and my son still goes to the Orthodontist there every six months. I just thought I would like to have my surgery and follow ups closer to home if possible.

I have heard the same thing, closed due to the high number of complications. I know someone who was scheduled twice and was cancelled each time, she took it as a sign not to go through with the surgery. She has since gained about 60 pounds. donut

Tia, Several years ago, Dr. Troy Glembot and his associates were performing RNY at Winchester Medical Center when they got slammed with a malpractive lawsuit for a woman patient who had complications (not totally uncommon). Their insurance company dropped them and they had to stop doing obesity surgery. WLS was just coming into it's own at that time (2003) and they were helping many people in the Winchester area. My daughter works for Valley Home Health and told me she spoke to Dr. Glembot at a meeting and he told her they would be doing the procedures once again. TIA, Yes Winchester Medical Center is starting their baratric department and surgery again. I was just in there last weekend after my TT surgery and they were telling me it just started back up again. The reason it stopped before was insurance issues. I would def. check it out. Where in WV do you live? My parents live in Berkeley Springs...which is 30 mins from Winchester. I have been staying with them since my TT. Good Luck, Stacey
