I have been reading this board for over a year and the knowledge I have gained from it has helped me tremendously as I have been on Portsmouth Naval's waiting list. As of Thurs. I have finally got a date. Aug. 30th. My question is about working. I have the best boss in the world and the support at work is awesome. My concern is I am responsible for the logistics for a major training event Aug. 27 & 28. I know I have to begin bowel prep the 28th been there done that hated it but know what that will be like. My question is how will I feel the 29th after the liquid diet and bowel prep were any of ya'll able to work? Also my event is at 5pm on the 28th if I start drinking that colon blow stuff really early Monday would I be flushed out by 5 pm? My boss is so good to me I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly for this event.

Jenny~ Congratulations on your surgery date! That is great news. I am having my surgery the day after you, so we will have to keep in touch. I am from the NJ boards, but I check in with Virginia frequently to see how Will is doing. I don't know about the bowel prep, I don't have to do that with my surgeon. I just read your post and wanted to wish you the best with your surgery! Michelle from NJ

Thank you for answering. Are you both nervous and excited also? I get so overwhelmed at moments, thinking of all that has to be done before surgery. I am moving my middle child into college Aug. 17th. I am also planning my oldest daughter's wedding which is next year. I wish you the best with your surgery as well. It is so good to know I am not alone in this.

Jenny~ WOW! You have a lot going on right now! I am nervous and excited, it depends on the day which I am feeling more. My kids are all in high school, no one going to college this year anyway, thank goodness I guess. I couldn't imagine doing surgery and getting someone set up, on their own, 2 weeks apart. I don't have much going on this summer, other than the normal kids sports practices, lessons and games. My sons play football, soccer and wrestle and my daughter is a Varsity cheerleader @ their high school and takes voice lessons. They keep me busy. We are going on a cruise this coming Thursday, and after that, it's all about getting ready for surgery! I have my pre admission testing at the hospital the day after I get home from the cruise, and then 3 weeks until surgery Please keep in touch after your surgery, we are practically "sisters" in this adventure! 1 day apart! God bless and peace be with you during all of this.... Michelle

Jenny~ Just wanted to congratulate you on your date. It will be here before you know it. I did not have to do the bowel prep either, so I know nothing about that. Wish I could help! (hugs) Tammy

Thanks for your reply. I guess it is standard "military procedure" to have everything cleaned out and "squared" away before surgery, my bowel is no different I am lucky they don't want to paint it gray and sent it to sea.

Just had to say that you made me spit my tea all over my computer screen with the paint it gray comment. Thanks!!! Congratulations on your date!! I'm still in the qualifying stage, but remain hopeful. Good luck!!! ~Ellen

I had to have the bowel prep, and I really would advise that you stay very close to a bathroom. I pretty much had to camp out there for a couple of days. Get yourself a pile of magazines, a couple of rolls of really soft TP, some of those wet wipes and a tube of baby rash cream. Congratulations on your surgery date, it will be here before you know it. Good luck!!!! Cathy

Jenny, First of all congratulations!!! We're almost always gentle! I know the military healthcare system can be a bear to deal with.. I'm an AF Brat... I was out b4 had my surgery though... Had to have the bowel prep for a colonoscopy that my doc ended up canceling while I was on the table!!!! He looked at me was like How old are you again? I told him 25... he said we don't need to do this and walked out.. I'd drinken (never can conjugate that right) like 3 liters of the fleet BS... spent 2 days in and out of the toilet... it was BAD... the other lady above me is right... soft TP magazines... maybe a crossword puzzle or two and some rash cream...it's not a fun experience... doesn't make it any easier that it tastes like A$$ going down too... You should be ok at work... as long as your boss is cool with frequent bathroom runs... and I'd move your office as close as possible... laptop if u got one might be a good idea!!! I had to start the night before for a 9am procedure... I think they like 24 hrs... but I'd ask your doc about the scrip he gave u for it... or whichever stuff you're using to clean out... *hugs* You'll get thru this!!! and don't be shy bout posting!!! You've lurked for a year! so you know us!!! we just don't know you!!! So keep posting... we're all good people... Good luck... -Ross C
