Revision Surgery in Hampton Roads Area

Can anyone reccomend a surgical practice in the Hampton Roads area that will perform a RNY GB Revision if they did not perform the original GB? The surgical practice that performed my RNY GB in 2004 will not do a revision since I am not going to die with out it. Their answer was "its not our fault". I contacted Dr. Clark's Office on Monday and no one has gotten back to me. Maybe they don't do it? If anyone can suggest a surgical practice, I can look them up with my insurance. Leland

I had my surgery through Norfolk Surgical Group. I know there was someone in my preop class that had a revision. Good luck! Christine

Can you give me a couple of the surgeon's names? I dont see Norfolk Surgical in the book, but maybe one of the surgeon's is listed.

Hi Leland, My surgeon is James Snyder. Another in the group is Mark Fontana. I was just wondering...I looked at your profile and you wrote that your insurance won't cover anything related to WLS. Will they cover a revision? My group also has a $495 program fee. Christine

My employer switched to new insurance in May. For some stupid reason, they do not cover the GB without a rider, BUT The cover the consultation, pre-op testing and all required visits, tests and treatmeants PRIOR to surgery and they cover all of the treatmetns, visits, consults and follow ups FOLLWING surgery, they just dont cover the surgery. Makes NO sense to me. But, I am dealing with it. I am seeing a GI doc next month to see what he can figure out. My surgeon has done a CAT Scan, he said there is nothing wrong and he won't do anything but yell at me for gaining weight. So forget that crap.

Wow that is weird...so all of the testing up to the point will be covered but you will have to be self pay for the actual surgery????

Well as soon as I found out we were switching insurance, I asked about coverage for the GB. Well HR dept said no they dont cover it. I got really pissy with HR acting like they weren't going to cover me at all. Well I was hoping they covered GB because my husband needs one. Our old insurance stopped covering it, but they would cover me for follow ups until 2 yrs post op since they paid for it. What ****** me off is, its not a secret that I had GB. Everyone in the office (including the HR chic who got the insurance) knows I had it. The HR chic went out of her way to negotiate something with our new insurance company for a call center employee who has only been here 2 yrs. She needed to have some surgery right around the time we switched. I've been here freaking 9 yrs and I'm not a call center rep. And she couldn't be botherd to make sure a 9 yr employee was covered? So I did a little research myself, and anything post op will be covered, but they won't cover the surgery itself. Makes no sense to me.

Hiya Leland !! I had Dr Clark and LOVED him. Your group won't fix your problems? That is terrible. Do you mind me asking what is wrong? I have had 2 strictures...well, I need another dilation..but I am ignoring it for now. Speaking as a nurse, I know most docs don't like to revise another surgeon's work...they just pass it back to the original doctor/surgeon. Sometimes I think it is between their ethics code and liability reasons...but I would call and call ..going down the list in the phone book...till I found one. I hope you start feeling better soon !!! Dana

I possibly have a fistual, not sure yet until I see the GI doc. But I have terrible stink to high heaven gas and I have gained 30lbs since August. When I last spoke to my surgeon's office regarding a followup appointment, I explained that I wanted some kind of revision because of this insane weight gain. The response was "thats not our fault". I realize that it is probably my fault that nothing bothers me and I can eat things on our no no list. I am sure I am 100% responsible for the 30lbs. BUT, my current surgical practice won't revise me unless I get back to MO level. I'm currently 70lbs over weight for my height. So I guess I just need to wait until I am back to 100lbs oever before they will see me again. I've seen my surgeon several times for this pain I keep having. He tells me there is nothing wrong and I need to see my PCP, it is totally unrelated to surgery. Well I didn't hurt like this before I had surgery. Now my middle section ALWAYS hurts. I am just going to keep plugging at the surgeon's in my insurance book and see who will do a revision.

Have they done any testing on you, Leland? CT scan? Endoscopy? Upper GI? Anything? Do you know if you were transsected? Remnant stomach totally separated from pouch. You could have a staple line disruption in that case. Good luck! Kathy
