OH My Tigger ... YOU MARCH YOUR ASS IN THERE .. TELL THEM NO WAY NO HOW .. THAT YOU ARE NOT SINGING NUTHIN .. UNLESS YOUR ATTORNEY LOOKS IT OVER FIRST ...
This is your life they are mucking with .... go to the meeting .. take notes .. present your case .. and then get up and tell them when your attorney is finished reading .. and counseling you .. you will get back with them .
I am so sorry you are feeling like this .. I know we have talked about it .. but keep on doing what you are doing .. follow your docs orders ... you must heal .
love you ..
Nat
Hello sweety -
Hopefully, now that you've had a good cry and a nights rest, you woke up this morning feeling revived and pissed off!!! Get mad, girlfriend, mad mad mad - Ive seen that feisty side of you, up close and in person, and that's the side that's going to pull you through this. I suspect when you talk to your attorney friend they'll also tell you that you do NOT have to agree too or sign ANYTHING, before implementing your RIGHT for legal counsel. Period.
Out of curiousity? If you "commit" to being there in the FALL, now, and find come September, you can't - are there any penalties or expenses possibly coming your way for NOT fullfilling the commitment? I don't know enough about the SCHOOL system to know if that's even a reality with a Teachers Contract ...but if there are no issues, penalties, outta' pocket expenses, etc, I'd say .... "Okay, see ya' in the FALL" and then let your body and doctor dictate what the true outcome will be.
Hang in there (and get MAD!!) ....love, Lei
Hi Joann, okay here's my two cents!!
There is such a thing as a 'closed meeting'. However, at the meeting, you will only listen. You will not sign anything or agree to anything. You will take all the papers they give you home, you will take notes, and inform them at the end of the meeting that YOUR lawyer will be in touch with them regarding a meeting that you are going to set up. And at that meeting that you set up, you will go over everything that they have suggested you sign, and all other arrangements. Be sure they understand that the lawyer is not attending as your 'friend' but rather as your counsel. That could be the block for them.
Now, when you fell at work, was it documented? Did you go to the doctor right away? Did they file workman's comp? If they did, and you did see a doctor, you will want to have all that paperwork with you when you go to your meeting. If they knew you fell at work and DIDN'T file a claim, they're in big big trouble. I assume they did file and they are paying for your care??
Your lawyer will tell them that you will return in the fall if your doctor approves it. You won't know that though until the fall semester starts (or words to that effect). If they want to hire someone for your position, they can only do that if you go on total disability which is approved by your doctor, and you won't know that until the fall semester. I would only say that 'at this point in time, I feel that I will return to my job with doctor's approval'. Again, not signing anything commiting to that.
I hope some of this helps you Joann. I've had many many years of experience in HR, mostly employee relations, but quite a bit in benefits and specifically workman's comp. I do know the games, but I also know the law!! You cannot be pushed out of your job. We've come a long way, baby!! Don't let them do any 'scare' tactics, or get you intimated and sign anything. There is nothing, i REPEAT NOTHING, that has to be signed right now!! You have the right to have it looked over, if your attorney is not present.
love
donna
Hey my buddy mother clucker...I am sooo sorry we never got together this past week-end. I am still in FL with my mom and dad - but things are much better here.
I used to work for the WC Board in Richmond...everything that Donna Mae said is great. Do just that...
You are in my thoughts & prayers. I love you.
Hugs!
