Wow moment
Yay! I walked from West Falls Church Metro station all the way home this afternoon. It took me about 47 minutes and Mapquest says that it's between 1.74 and 2.02 miles depending on what I use as a starting point. Mapquest wants me to take a long way out of the Metro station, but I cut across using the walkers path. 1.74 is from the high school next door, 2.02 is from the Metro itself. (thanks to Party Princess for the idea of Mapquesting it).
Been stuck at the same weight for about a week now, but I think this happened last month at about this time (wasn't weighing then, so who knows), so hopefully within the next couple of weeks it will plummet again (it went from 348 to 330 within ten days, I'm pretty sure I was retaining water). I've also upped my water and protein. It's funny, the more water I drink, the more I want to drink it. Same goes for exercise. When I got off the train, I was dreading walking home, but as I got into it, I didn't want to stop (even though I was dripping and my legs were rubbery when I got home).
Soon as Dianna gets better, I'm dragging her back to the gym for more quality time with the elliptical machine.
P.S.: Oh yeah, and I also cut off about 10 inches of my hair. I still have it, anyone know how I would go about donating it to the kids with cancer or something like that?
Good for you Julie!!! For your hair visit www.locksoflove.org Some of my friends daughers have done this a couple times each now. What a nice thing to do!

Good job Julie! It was funny using map quest because while I was walking I had it estimated at about 1/2 mile each way and it was actually DOUBLE on mapquest! That made me sooo excited. I checked it about 4 times...I just knew it had to be wrong
I hope Dianna is ok...please wish her my best!
Christine
Hey, congratulations on your progress as well! I could never have pulled off a mile so newly post op. I was walking around like someone's grandma, to and from the front door, and was proud of that. You're doing excellent! Be careful of mapquest, though, it always wants you to go the LONG way. (one time it even told me to take the highway to go about three blocks away. )
Anyhow, apparently on Monday, Dianna (hey she can tell stories on me, turnabout is fair play!) was trying to get her daughter's car seat out of her trunk. It was wedged in there pretty tight. So she pulled on it and got a horrible pain in her back. She's always had a kidney that was sort of "out of place", and the pain was apparently in the same place as this kidney. She tried going to the PCP, but his office is WAY overbooked, as two of his partners are out on maternity leave. The office is crazy busy to begin with, so having two doctors out means that she couldn't get in that day. The lady answering the phones told her that if she was having really severe pain then she needed to go to the emergency room, which she did.
Turns out that she has a kidney infection and also pulled a muscle in the same area when trying to get the car seat out of the trunk. When I last talked to her (yesterday) she was taking pain meds and getting lots of rest. Every time I talked to her she was about to take a nap. I'm assuming she's better today, but I decided to leave her be.
Take care,
Julie
Julie, You are doing wonderful !!!! That is great !!! What a long walk !!! Also, that is great about donating your hair. I could never stand the cancer floor when I worked at the children's hospital..I would always end up in the lounge bathroom crying. Doing that is such an admirable thing. My hair is thin and stringy or else I would do it.
Keep up the good work. Tell Diana that I hope she feels better. I didn't know she wasn't well. Hope she feels better soon.
hugs,
Dana
Thanks, Dana!
You'd never know your hair is thin or stringy by your picture, it's gorgeous!
The way I figure it, I rotate between growing my hair out and cutting it all off, and at least this way I could put it to some good use. I was bald, once, in another life (maybe 10 years ago) but mine was by choice (rebellion of the 18 year old, I guess!). I had to wear a wig to work to keep up with convention. I remember hating how the fake hair felt.
And I guess I better gear up for more long walks -- I want to do the Walk From Obesity in September, my surgeon is sponsoring the one here in NOVA.
