Several things: 1st The carbonation stretches the pouch, making it very uncomfortable and also eventually making it larger so that you can eat more, thus defeating the purpose of surgery. I've heard that you can let it go flat and then drink it but I find it is nasty. My surgeon said no soda ever again. 2nd Most sodas are empty calories, again defeating the purpose of the surgery. 3rd I was told by my surgeon that there is a chemical in the carbonation reaction that causes dehydration. Many people go back to drinking sodas after surgery but honestly, I've never heard a good report from any of them. Ocassionally, if I'm really craving one, my husband will buy a Coke Zero and I'll take a few small sips from it. I let the bubbles go away in my mouth before I swallow and honestly, it's just not like it used to be so most times, it's not even worth the effort. Not flaming, just stating what I was told. Ask your surgeon to see what his program calls for. Tonya

Thanks, Dana. I feel great. I have bones in my face that I can feel now. LOL. I know, so many things don't taste like they used to and the replacements NEVER taste like the original. *sigh* The things we do to trick our bodies into losing weight. Hugs, Tonya

Tonya- WOWZERS! I didn't recognize your new pic! You look fantastic!! I seriously did a double take! I showed it to my hubby (since you're the same age as I am and our start weights are similar) and he was blown away....said you looked really pretty and alot younger! Compliments to you! As for soda.....yeah...I was told the same things...I don't drink much pre-op so it shouldn't be too big of a change for me. I'm worried about other things more than soda! Christina S

Also, there is something about the phosphorus in the carbonation that leeches calcium from your bones. We are more prone to osteoporosis due to calcium malabsorptio to begin with that is why it is important we supplement calcium and the right kind (citrate). Kathy

Yeah, that was it. I couldn't remember if it was dehydration or calcium. Thanks Kathy. Glad to hear Rich is doing okay. Hope things continue to go well. Hugs to you both, Tonya
