Okay, so my sister indirectly got on my case about not singing my own praises about being on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes the other day. Anyhow, I think I will toot my own horn this time.... I THINK I am down at least 65 if not 70lbs! There is a scale here in the house that weighs only up to 330. I tried to use it last week and only got E for error. I expected that, I had been to the surgeon's office three days prior and his scales said 348. So last night I decided to try it again (had nothing to do, just jumped on there for the hell of it). Well at first it said 328. Then it said E. Then it said 329. Then it said E again. I just shrugged. Didn't necessarily know what to make of that. Then I weighed a 6lb jug of honey and a 5lb bag of potatoes on the scale at the same time and it waffled between 10.5 and 11lbs, so I figure it's pretty accurate. Knowing that you weigh heavier in the evenings, I tried it again this morning. It CONSISTENTLY said (tried 3x) 329.5. I didn't believe that, so I tried again and it said 330 three times. I'm going to go with it! However, this is the first time I have weighed outside my surgeon's office. There was one time I had testing at the hospital and weighed there, then went to my surgeon's office (same campus) and weighed and it said 5lbs heavier. So I'm thinking that I should add 5lbs to what I got on the scale to make it consistent with what the surgeon's office scale might say, because that's the scale I have been going by since day one. Does this make sense or am I nitpicking? The way I figure it, who cares. The worst I am doing is 65lbs less since March 2. And I don't go back to the surgeon until the middle of July (and don't have time to visit him during business hours to verify the difference) so I will have to go by what my scale says for the time being. I'm still kind of shocked. I don't feel really all that different with the exception that I have more stamina. Julie 399/371/330 (335?)/160

Julie, I'm so happy for you - and proud of you!! It's going to go down fast, just wait and see. You're funny - doing the honey and potatoes! I would do the same thing. It made me laugh. I can just see you lugging that stuff over to the scale. I can't wait to see you again Julie, I probably won't recognize you!! love donna

Hi Donna! You know, I was looking for a 5lb bag of sugar or flour or something, and couldn't find any. Then I found the honey which we got in FL last year (at this really cool self-serve place, all done on the honor system, and according to the owner almost everyone abides by it, he's only come up a dollar short once or twice). The scale wouldn't even read that. So my niece and I searched the pantry for another pre-weighed item (we even considered stacking cans on top of the scale and then adding up the individual weights ) and found the potatoes. They wouldn't weigh either. Then we put the two together and it worked. She thought it was hilarious. Meanwhile, while it was going between 329-330 and E I'd throw my shirt off to get it back down and she ran away and wouldn't come bac****il I put my shirt back on. We had a good laugh at that one. Speaking of not recognizing a person, your new photo looks great! You look so much more like the person I met in the hospital than your last photo did. Keep it up! I'm also excited because I see my best friend tomorrow for the first time in a month. He saw me when I was still at home recuperating, but our busy lives haven't allowed our paths to cross since. I can't wait to see the look on his face! Julie

You are doing fabulous, Julie! You really truly are! 65 lbs or so since March is excellent. Congrats on being able to weigh on the scale at home. We had one of those and Rich couldn't use it til he lost well over 100 lbs. Sometime or another...all of a sudden... you'll feel a big difference and it is going to surprise you. Many of us have been there. We logically see the number is smaller on the scale and our stamina is better but we don't see the difference or feel it yet then *poof*. You'll be there very, very soon. Congrats on 30 minutes on the ellitipical machine and your drive to get to the gym often. Excellent! Just excellent! You are definitely making the most of your early weight loss. Keep doing what you are doing - you are doing it right! Hugs, Kathy

Thanks Kathy! Sometimes I worry I am not doing enough. Then I worry I'm doing too much. And until yesterday I didn't feel like I was really losing anything. But I guess I have to be doing something right. Now, if I could remember to get the gallstone medication and the water in everyday, I'd REALLY be doing something. Hope everything is going okay with you and Rich and he gets that spleen/lab issue resolved soon. Julie
