Hello Everyone,
I've been lurking a bit and decided to finally post. I've just made the decision to pursue surgery after contemplating it for more than a year. I wish I'd started the ball rolling sooner. At any rate, you all are very supportive to one another, and I look forward to getting to know you all, and learning more from the path you've taken before me. Currently, I'm leaning towards Banding. I think its the best choice for me. Wish me luck as I see my doctor and tell him that THIS is the route I want to pursue, finally. I've perused several surgeons and have my eye on one in particular, and have gone over what my insurance company requires to be in place for obesity surgery. The physician I would like to have do my surgery isn't listed in my policy under "bariatric surgery" but IS listed under "Surgery". I was encouraged by him being listed as participating with my insurance company and play in any capacity.
Any advice for someone just starting the process is welcome.

Hi, Dawn
We are pretty good group here...lot's of knowledge and a lot of good listening ears... a good "family".
I had my surgery 8/30/05 (RNY) and have lost to date 140 pounds. It's been an awesome journey and I have not regreted a day of it!!...and I would definitely do it all over again!
Read lots of profiles - they full of knowledge - struggles - smiles - WOW moments and real honest to goodness feelings!
Good luck in your journey and stay in touch!
Hugs
Jill
Hi Dawn
You are in my neck of the woods....Welcome!! This is the best place for support if I have ever seen one... So, which Dr are you interested in?? Is it someone in the Fair Oaks network?? That is where I went, and I am very pleased at the results, and my sister just had her RNY done, and she is happy with one of them as well
Good luck talking to your PCP. I have my discussion in my profile (Although I look like a whining child when mine had to SUGGEST it to me when that is all I wanted him to do in the first place)
Let me know if you need anything, you are in the neighborhood
Dianna
Thank all of you for the warm welcome!!! You all are so kind and encouraging. I look forward to getting to know you all.
If anyone has had any experience dealing with Aetna HMO, please give me any information you have on how to get the surgery approved. I WISH I'd had my doctor document all of the freaking diets I've been on. I am one of those lucky people who exercises regularly and as a result has lowered my cholesterol and triglycerides, but not my weight. Grrr.
