I just have a quick question about bread. I wonder why so many people do not eat bread after surgery? Yes, I know that are lots of cals in bread and the carbs are something to be reckoned with. But, is there something else that I am missing?? Natures Own has a bread that I think is only 90cals a slice and 7carbs and 6protein per slice. Is that also bad for me?? Melissa

Well, besides the issue with high carbs, and that causing unnecessary hunger, I'd say for some it just doesn't agree with the pouch. It can ball up and expand in there causing major pain. That being said, I've tried bread and it went down just fine. Not sure if that's a positive thing.........LOL, but true none the less. Hope this helps!! XOOXOXOOXOXOXOXOOX Sharon

Hi, Melissa, My nutritionist says good WW bread or whole grain bread is OK after you are back on regular food. I usually have to toast it tho, til it is very crispy. Otherwise, it just doesn't sit well. I am also picky. Most breads are too.....doughy and bready. It has to have a certain texture. My most common use for bread is 1 piece super toasted with peanut butter...for breakfast. Today for lunch I had 1/2 a whole wheat pita, toasted crispy with low fat deli beef and hummus. Yummy. PS: My daughter Christa is a Hokie too...we used to call her princess biscuit blossom and now we call her princess Hokie blossom. (hmmm maybe we are unusually odd parents). Happy saturday, Jeannie

The way "my" surgeon explained it to me is that it turns into a kind of "GUM" and really can mess up the works. I have heard of post ops and their "Bread balls". LOL I am saying goodbye to bread lately too. Not forever just for a while till I get my barrings! Hugs! Shele

I do some whole grain bread every so often but toasted really well. My nutritionist gave the same reason's as people have already said for why we should avoid bread but some times I really crave a little toast. Liz

I have not had much since my RNY on 2/8, but I had french onion soup on Sunday, with the bread and cheese. I was more concerned about the balls of cheese. I was very careful eating, chewing very well, but the bread tasted so good. I had no problems after eating. The other day I tried 1/2 of a multi grainenglish muffin, toasted twice with chicken strips and melted cheese. It was Yummy. No problems with that either. Good Luck. Donna
