Diabetic Saga

I apologize for the delay of a update and the lack of appearance on the board of lately. I have been busy at work, summer camp for my children, and been getting my children ready for a new school year. Last Tuesday I saw the endocrinologist and it was a interesting visit. First off in his opinion based the testing I already had done and medical history he does believe that a tumor is the problem. He said it is actually rather common after gastric bypass surgery for blood sugar problems to occur. Our bodies are no longer how they were suppose to originally and our brains still will send signals for our organs to function as normal so when we it our body expects when we eat for there to be a good amount of sugar that needs to be processed and insulin production is increased to meet that expected need. If there is not enough sugar present low blood sugar condition can exist. Now, normally most of our diets are able to keep the blood sugar in check. In my case my diet alone can no longer keep it in check partially do to the fact I have increased my physical activity. So, the plan is to monitor over the next few months and attempt to take me off medication. He did say it may not be possible to take me off medication. Another thing he mentioned was the medication I am taking now is not his preferred medication for my problem that there is a medication that works a lot better at minimizing cycling blood sugars; however, it appears the medications is keeping my blood sugars where he likes and he is not really concern with the occasional low readings in the 60s. He wants me to see the dietatian to see if she can help me with my diet even though I have been pretty much on a diabetic diet since my gastric bypass surgery. I see the dietation tomorrow morning and i am hoping maybe to learn something new. i try to do my best to eatseveral small meals but i am thinking i need to add at least one t two more. I am going to continue to have days were I feel drained there is not much that can be done except try the other medication or try a combination. Since, March-April time frame I have been losing weight and I need to try maintain my weight. I am getting concern inquiries about my health from people. Well, this is it for the update for now. I will continue to post updates as I have updates plus I will try to participate more on the board.

Michael....I am so sorry for all this.   THANK YOU though for sharing your experiences with us.    As a gastric bypass patient myself it is good to at least be aware of things that "can or might" affect us one day as well.   I am going to keep you in my prayers that your issues will be resolved without any surgery if at all possible.   It's not fun when you feel bad due to issues that are beyond your control.    Praying for complete healing with these issues.    Thank you for the updates and please continue to update us.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I have my good days and my bad days but I do not regret the decisions I have made in my life. I know some people *****gret decisions when something unexpected occurs. The doctor mentioned to me that he has had patients that jumped to the conclusion that they need to have a reversal performed. I have no intention of even remotely thinking about such a foolish idea especially if not backed as being medically necessary by a physician. Nobody said life was easy and we all have faced challenges and we will continue to face challenges. Thank you for the continued prays and support. My next little hurdle is to start back up with my allergy shots which I will be starting this week so hopefully I can keep that under control. I failed to mention I go back to the endocrinologist in December and a week prior to that appointment have blood work done. Overall I am in good spirits just at times a little stressed.

Well, I learned one thing new with the dietitian that I need to eat my protein part of my meals first follow by vegetables and then starches last. Overall my diet is where it needs to be protein wise she wants me to keep it above 80. I am going to have to force my self to drink a high protein shake for one of my small meals. The dietitian did not like my blood sugars over the last few days since my appointment with the doctor. In fact she got the doctor and had him check me and review the readings ask about the readings. Apparently, I had too many readings in the 70's in a 48 hour time span. I explained even with the medication I have some days when I am off work I take a nap because I am tired. It seems I have found a great endocrinologist with a great knowledgeable staff. I believe in the long run I will be fine as long as I do what I am told.
