Diabetes saga continues
Well I saw my primary care doctor today and let's just say some of the news was no surprise and some was a surprise. First after reviewing the information from the emergency room visit and my blood sugar log she decided it is time I see a endocrinologist. One thing see kept asking is if I am eating and my wife and I told I do eat but do have times when I really do not feel like eating. One good thing mentioned is how good i looked finally hydrated. I have been losing a little weight of lately two different scales confirmed it. Now, the bad news with mentioning the endocrinologist she wants me to find one and schedule a appointment ASAP. She has seen the same symptoms in one of her other patients, which turned out to be a very small tumor in the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. The only way to find this type of tumor is by sampling the cells of the pancreas. The only fix for this type of tumor is a pancreas transplant. For now I am to continue as directed taking my medication, strictly follow a low carbohydrate diet, intake as much protein as possible, and drink plenty of fluids. Tomorrow morning my wife and I start calling endocrinologist offices to try and schedule a appointment as soon as possible. I will keep everyone informed as I know anything.

Praying for you Michael. Hope that she is wrong in that diagnosis. Good luck with finding a good endocrinologist who can help you resolve these issues.

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE; COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN; AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!! THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

The doctor is concerned enough that she wants me to get a endocrinologist associated with one of the major hospitals especially if it is the type of tumor she suspects and a transplant is needed. Let's just say after hearing the news my family was not in the best of moods. I am also hoping that it is not the problem she believes it to be but the more medical doctors I talk to the more I am finding it is strange for diabetes to appear after having gastric bypass and not having a family history of diabetes. As I am typing this response my wife is working the phone calling Endocrinologists. I am sure the issue will get resolved I just might not like what the problem ends being.
Thank you everyone for the prayers. Currently, waiting on Endocrinologist office to call us once my primary care doctor sends his office has my records to get a appointment scheduled. I am going to try not to worry to much until I find something definitely out. As I mentioned I will keep everyone updated once I find anything out.
MICHAEL-you've been on my prayer list all along, but with this updated info, I can make my prayers more "specific". Of course, I know HE already knows EVERYTHING anyway, but I still feel closer, somehow, when I can act like I "kinda sorta know what's going on" :)
Is a biopsy the only way to identify these cells? Can't be done by sonogram?
I must tell you again..even though YOU already know it...how very blessed you are to have such a wonderful, caring wife!!
Thank you for the update--please keep them coming!!

We Can Do Hard Things
Thank you, Gina
My wife and I asked that question because I had a sonogram and a CT scan a few weeks ago. The doctor said the only way to determine this type of tumor is a biopsy, which why she is strongly pushing for us to find a Endocrinologist quickly. So far the soonest one on my insurance could see me is August 20th which is not a surprise for a specialist. However, we are going to call around a few more endocrinologist offices before settling on one. I figure it will still be a few weeks before I get any real answers just hoping that the problem is not a tumor. When the doctor mentioned it to us late yesterday we both a little shocked and decided to forewarn family that the next few months could rather busy. But we have discussed things and have decided we will worry once we have to cross that bridge but at the very least we are going to read up on the worst case scenario to be prepared. Believe me I will keep everyone updated as I know anything.
