Diabetes the continuing Saga

Yesterday was a bad day for me medically spend yesterday afternoon in the Emergency Room because of blood sugar issues.  Yesterday, I had decided I wanted to go to Central Market in Dallas to look into getting some different protein bars.  I have gotten into the habit now of carrying my blood sugar supplies with everywhere I go.  Since me and my family where out we decided we would grab some lunch I had decided to check my blood sugar out of the blue to see what it was doing.  I was shocked to see that it was 256 and it had been almost 4 hours since I ate breakfast which a bowl of sugar free oatmeal.  So, I delayed eating my lunch and waited a little bit to check it again and it dropped to around 120.  I finally ate a little lunch and went home after being home for a little bit my ankles were bothering me and I felt a little sick so I went to lay down.  My wife asked me to check my blood sugar again and this time it was 315 at which time it had gone over the limit set by my doctor and I went to the ER.  By the time I got back into a room my blood sugar dropped back down to 78 by their meter and 79 by blood test.  The ER basically did not do anything but give instructions to  have doctor seriously look into trying a different oral medication to get my blood sugar under control, covered the same thing about low blood sugar I know and recommend letting more time past before coming to the ER to see if my blood sugar come back down on its own.  My wife and family are extremely upset that my blood sugar is not under control and that exact cause of the blood sugar issues has not found as of yet.  It has some baffled since normally people who have gastric bypass surgery their diabetes clears.  I never had diabetes before my gastric bypass and it has been 4 years since my gastric bypass surgery my weight is within my target range and slowly creeping down towards the low end.  The funny thing is my doctor had to cancel my appointment yesterday because she was since and I am not scheduled again until 2 weeks.  I personally think it may be time for her to pass me off to a Endocrinologist as my blood sugar is still up and down to  much and no exact cause of why the blood sugar is occurring.  I will keep everyone informed.  In case anybody new is reading my post my situation is just proof that we are all unique and how weight loss surgery affects each of us is different.  Even with my past complications and this present development I do not regret my decision to have weight loss surgery.  I will continue to provide updates of my situation.

I agree that you should probably see an Endocrinologist.

Hope you get it figured out and under control soon.

I just got back from picking up a new meter from doctor office because ER mentioned it could be meter error.  I could believe meter error if I had numerous erroneous readings over several days. Wife spoke to my doctor's nurse and it was decided a second meter will prove meter error and also confirm high readings.  My doctor is still out sick and once she is back in the office my case will be discussed on getting me into the office sooner currently scheduled for the 15th of this month.

Michael...I'm so sorry that your still having those diabetes issues.    Definately go to a doctor who specializes in diabetes.    My nieces have diabetes and they go to a specialist for diabetes....sometimes you have to be hospitalized to get all the levels where they should be ( just letting you know what they have gone through ).   Praying for you that this gets resolved quickly.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Time to get off that roller coaster.  I second, or third, endocrinologist.

I know right now the constant fluctuations in blood sugar leaves pretty tired most of the time. I have been trying to hide the affects of the blood sugar from others especially at work. However, my boss and supervisor know of my blood sugar problem and so does partner. Recently people have begun to notice a problem with me so I am hoping to get this under control soon as my boss has already said today in a email if I need time off to get this under control we will make it happen. Thanks everyone for the encouragement and prays rest assured my blood sugar issues will be brought under control here before long. Right now, I am waiting on my primary care doctor to decide what the next step will be. In the mean time I am starting to research Endocrinologist covered under my insurance and trying to locate one close to my home.

Thank you, planning a trip down to Austin the end of this month and will be staying in Austin at least a couple of days visiting friends and family. I am hoping that everything is under control at that time but a lot depends on the next step my doctor wants to take and I seriously believe she is going send me to a endocrinologist either that she is going to more aggressively treat my diabetes. ER doctor was surprised that she has me on metformin based on A1C showing signs of prediabetes. I really did not care much for the ER doctor; however, I do think something needs to be done to try to limit the fluctuations more because diet, exercise, and the present medication alone are not handling it.
