Callie - my new avatar

Everyone admire and welcome my sweet and spoiled rotten, 8-yr old beagle, Callie. I chose her to be my new avatar. Vivian, thanks for helping me change my avatar via the shrink site. That helped.

Hoping everyone has had a good week so far.

My surgery, if it still stands as scheduled, is only two weeks from tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I've decided to go with VSG instead of DS. Just feeling more at peace about this decision versus rerouting intestines, potential OVER  malabsorption and the problems that brings - infusions, injections, TPN (?) - IV and port infusions of vitamins or proteins, as well as the aftercare expenses associated with DS. I understand that IF everything goes just right, I "shouldn't" have those problems and that "if" everything is just right that my vitamins shouldn't be too expensive, but the labs and protein will not be covered by my insurance and that will be more expense than I'd like to spend if I don't have to. Plus, since I am self pay, I just feel better about spending less than half the cost that a DS would cost. We "could" cover the DS expense, but I feel better about spending less.

I can always go back and add last part of DS if the VSG doesn't work for me, but I think, I trust, it will. I've had several things happen and situations arise over the last couple of weeks that I've seen as road blocks and God's voice telling me to  think twice about having the DS. So, unless I totally change my mind about VSG when I see Dr. Stewart this coming Friday, I think the VSG is my choice.

As always, I thank each of you that have helped me and supported me in this decision. And, it goes without saying that I'd appreciate any and all prayers for wisdom, peace of mind, and a successful WLS.

BLESSINGS - enlightened -  Susie

Susie...glad you decided. I think VSG is a safer option when you consider malabsorption. I wi**** had been around when I had my bypass. I would have chosen it for sure. I think you will be happy and still have options.

I don't see your dog...just you!

Thanks, Karla. And yes, I feel SO MUCH MORE at peace with my decision. I just NEVER felt a real peace with the DS. I am a firm believer in listening to that small voice and your gut feeling. I've made too many decisions that I've lived to regret for not listening and following those "feelings" which I mainly attribute to God. You'll have to go look at my photos for more of my fur babies & my Gbabies.

I think the VSG is a great choice and sure you will do well. Can't wait to read your post of how the pounds are dropping off.

Will keep you in my prayers.

Susie.....no thanks required.   I'm just glad it worked for you with the avatar photo.    Callie is a cutie pie.   One of my furbabies got out a week ago and ended up at the city pound.    Now he has kennel cough and is spreading it to my other dogs.   UGH I'm not a happy camper this AM.   He's going to the vet at 2 today and I'm praying the vet will give me medicine so all my furbabies can be treated and I won't have to bring them ALL in...that could get very expensive.   My dogs have never had kennel cough before but then they've never been to the dog pound before either.    Susie....I think that you have made a excellent choice....and like Karla...if I were considering WLS today....I would probaly go with VSG also.    If you do as they tell you....I'm sure your weight loss will be about the same as if you had gastric bypass.   And like you said...if you don't lose enough you can always choose to go back and have the DS part done.   I don't think you'll have to do that though.    Feel free to call me anytime if you need added support and encouragement.    One of these days we're going to have to meet face to face.    Are you going to Dr. Stewart in Denton on friday?   I'm going to pray for God to give you a peace about this decision.   I know this is a good one since the DS can cause issues with the meds you have to take.    I know you will do great and not much longer now till your surgery.   I am SO excited for you my friend.    Have a very blessed day !!!

Hey Vivian ~ I'm sorry to hear about your fur baby. Praying that the kennel cough is contained and doesn't spread to your other puppies. Thanks for your support. You've been SUCH a positive person. I value your friendship. And, no, I'm not seeing him in Denton. He comes to Lubbock once a month or so. I have an appointment with him at Grace Clinic here in Lubbock. I am, however,  flying to my youngest daughter's house this Saturday evening AFTER my oldest daughter's baby girl's 3 yr Birthday Party, which is also on Saturday afternoon. Can't believe she, Alivia, is already three!! I'll be in Plano Saturday night and returning Wednesday morning. I wanted to get one last stay in with my youngest daughter before I have surgery the following week. I get home on Wednesday the 27th from her house and then turn around and drive back on Monday, April 1 for my surgery and pre-op meeting on April 2 & 3. It's gonna be a crazy fast next couple of weeks.

As it stands, I will be in Frisco @ Forrest Park Medical Center for surgery. Maybe we can meet the day before surgery on April 2nd? After I have seminar with Sue @ doctors office and get all admittance stuff done at hospital, might be good. See what you've got on that day....probably mid to late afternoon. Maybe we can make it work then. Okay...over and out.

Sounds good to me Susie.    I'm really pretty flexable with my schedule but then you never know what can come up at the last minute.   I had plans for this afternoon after the vet appointment but then my son needed me to come watch my granddaughter...when that happens...everything is dropped and I run to see her.   LOL   Hopefully nothing will come up.   If it does...I just may have to drive to Frisco to the hospital to see you.
