Looking for Dallas area WLS Alcoholism group
The wife of a friend of mine had WLS 10 years ago. Last night, she was taken to rehab for the third time. She's really struggling with her alcoholism. It's an issue that arose after her surgery and I don't think that she or her husband had any idea that this sort of transfer addiction was fairly common among us post-ops.
I'm wondering if there are any support groups for post op/transfer alcoholics in this area. I'd like for her to be able to talk to others like herself. I'm sure that your average rehab program is great, of course, but maybe it doesn't hit the nail on the head as well as one designed for transfer addictions.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Brandy

So sorry your friend is going through this Brandy. Too bad surgeons don't make their patients aware of transfer addictions. I know mine has support groups for his patients and he has people come in a educate us on the addictions. I would suggest she see if her surgeon has support groups and if so she should attend them. If not....I would go to a councilor for bariatric patients. There are more and more of them out there since there are so many people who have had WLS. I would call my surgeon's office ( if I were here ) and get a recommendation to one. Prayers being said for your friend now.
