New here, still pre-op in San Antonio area

I just wanted to say hi to all the folks on this board and to see if there was a San Antonio area support group.  My surgeon's office has a support group, but I didn't really fit in.  I'm in my early 30s, but almost the entire group was made up of much older folks.

I'm hoping to have RNY surgery in late Aug or early Sept in San Antonio.

Welcome to the TX oard. I know there's a group that meets in Round Rock once a month. If you scroll down you will see posts about it. There probably are some, but I haven't seen posts on here about SA groups. You might give your surgeons group another try. Remember you are there for info and support and help. You may have more in common with the "old folks" than you think! Other younger people might be there at times too. OH probably has some different oards such as your surgery type and the month/ year you have surgery. The first year or so I got my best support from my Jan. 2006 board.

Good luck!

Karla

Wish you the best of luck on your journey.  A member of our group is one of your surgeon's patients.
I agree wholeheartedly with what Karla said about the age thing.  Obesity doesn't discriminate on age, we all got here on the same boat and are just trying to help one another out.  You are more than welcome to join our meeting if you are ever in the area. Our next meeting will be on July 21st in central Austin.  We will be meeting at a member's swimming pool area.  We will post something on the board when the date draws near.

I don't automatically discount what an older crowd said in the group, but they were all recent sugery patients, with no young children in their house and were retired.  I, on the other hand, work a full time job, have a 1st and 2nd grader in the house and am 32.  I never really know where I'll be during my work day (access to fridge or microwave??), so I am going to be very challenged in prepping my meals.  So with all due respect, I have to say that my current lifestyle will not be assisted by the folks I have already met in the group at my surgeon's office.

Hi Stacy,

I have a friend in NW San Antonio who is a lapbander and another who is RNY.  Let me contact them via email/text so they can make contact with you through the board.  They are both really greaet people and perhaps they will be able to help you out pre and post op.

Do you have a surgery angel ?  I will be in touch!

Nina
