Help! I am discouraged

Hello. I've been off this message board for years! But over the past 6 months, I have gained back a TON of weight.  I haven't been eating right or exercising but I already feel defeated.  I need to hear that SOMEONE else has re-gained a considerable amount of weight but was able to take some or most of it back off on their own.  I feel like I'm back where I was years ago when nothing I did worked.  I had my surgery 5.5 years ago.  Thanks for any feedback I can get.  *lost 95 lbs after surgery, put back on around 40 (haven't had the guts to step on the scale)

Kay....it CAN BE DONE !!!   Wish Gina would see this and respond.    She is over 10 yrs. post op and she finally reached her goal a year or so ago after I believe she regained around 70 lbs.   Sorry Gina if that isn't right.    GO right now and get rid of the JUNK that is causing you issues.    Go back to the beginning and start over.     Your "tool of choice" I'm sure still works.     You know what you should be doing after all you lost 95 lbs.    It probably won't come off as quickly as it did originally but the main thing is that you are going to get back on track.    Take things one meal at a time if that is what it takes.  Don't look at yourself as a failure either.    You are just beginning your journey again....that's all !!!    Go to fitday.com and log your foods that you eat.  Start out slowing and walk or get in some type of exercise.      I know YOU CAN DO THIS !!!  Come here daily for support and encouragement.    PM me if you need to.   I am on OH all the time ( well not exactly but I do check my phone or emails ).     Don't EVER give up !!!!   WE CARE AND WANT YOU TO SUCCEED !!!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

KAY---VIVIAN texted me and told me about your post. I'm at work, and I can't respond the way I want to, right now, but will be back, later this evening..

DO NOT DESPAIR !!! This is AB-SO-LUTELY do-able !!!!! You have taken the HARDEST step-just coming here...

If you have NOT weighed--go do it--RIGHT NOW--you have to have a starting place. You do NOT have to "share" that number with anyone, if you do not care to..but YOU need to face it, and know what it is....by NOT weighing, and facing it, I gained 70 lbs, when I "mighta coulda" caught at it 10-15-20-etc..but I was scared to weigh...

Check back with you later!

Edited to add: KAY-I won't go into alot of "details" until I know you want them, but I toally agree with MEGGIE's suggestion. I still use the 5day pouch test, when I'm needing to "decarb" and "reset" my brain. You can find the details at www.5daypouchtest.com  or just google it. It is what started me on the road to re-losing the 70 lbs and going on to finally reaching goal--that AND the undying support of my CHOSEN FAMILY, RIGHT HERE!!

you are NOT defeated!! Just face the scale and get it over with. that will give you a starting point. Try the 5 day poch test to get you jump started and to get your thinking back on track. You have done it before and you CAN do it again!!

Thank you all for your responses.  I will try!  I just needed to hear someone like Gina say it could be done. I've tried the "pouch test" and it did NOT work. I was starving and it just made me obsess about food all day.  And you guys are absolutely right. I need to get rid of my vices.  CHOCOLATE!!  It is going to be hard saying goodbye to that lover.  But I went a whole year without it when I lost the weight. So why can't I do it again?? I must say, what I am still proud of, is that it has been almost 6 years since I've had a soda!!  Diet or otherwise! Thank you again, and I'll post my progress.  And I don't know about weighing myself.  My clothing size is indication enough.  :-)

Kay... Weight yourself.     You have to know what the numbers are so you will know when you loose some weight.   As Gina said you don't have to tell anyone.    We aren't going to throw rocks at anyone.    Trust me.... We are NOT perfect either.    We just want to help give you suggestions to help get you back on track.     I have even done the 17 Day Diet.   Book by same name & it works!!   You eat certain combinations of foods & not bad ones either.    Hang in there....come here for support & encouragement.    If there is a weight loss support group in your area go there & get a accountability partner.     I'll be praying for you to stick with this.   Hang in there & never give up!      Hugs & blessings-Vivian

You can do this Kay. I've taken off regained weight too. The Plateau Buster is another 10 day plan for WLS patients you can try. It works if you stick tout. It's mostly protein. Weigh****chers might be another option. It is supposed to be safe and the most "doable" for a lifetime. Weighing in each week will probably motivate you.

Good luck!

Well, to prove I was very serious, and because I thought I'd be encouraged if and when I saw the numbers go down and that would help keep me motivated, I STEPPED ON THE SCALE! Here are my numbers:

Pre-Surgery: 240
1-2 years out- goal reached: 145
Maintained for a couple more years: 155-160
Current weight: 179

I want to get back to 155.  That is where I was at a "healty" weight for my height.  Felt great.  Liked how I looked in clothes.  So, 25 lbs to go! What really has me freaking out is that I'm inching into a size 14 again.. We all know what is after that....no more Express, no more Limited....Lane Bryant again.  Granted, they do have cute clothes, but I vowed NEVER AGAIN! So it is time to get this butt in gear and take some if this fat off!!!

Thanks for the encouragement!

KAY....KUDOS for taking "step 2"--facing that darn scale--bet it wasn't as "bad" as you feared ir might be..

25 lbs is TOTALLY do-able. You say you really like chocolate. It may do have to be a NEVER thing for you, if you can find a way to work it in to your daily caloric totals. It MAY be that IS the one thing you just CAN'T handle..but the trade off will still be worth it (as you already well know-I'm just reminding you!)..

Since you like to use clothing sizes as your "measure of success", how about taking an article of clothing that is "too tight" now, and start trying it on, once a week, and see how loose it starts getting..then progress to the mext smaller size, etc. Weighing once a week/month would be good too-just to journal it..

I'm looking forward to sharing this LIFETIME journey with you !
