THURSDAY WLS EXPRESS
Chase took down a hog the last time he was at the lease with his girlfriend's dad. Our neighbor hunts all the time and has given us a ton of meat from the ones he's shot too. We have all kinds of wild hog meat in our freezer right now. I can eat wild hog meat but I could never eat the meat from the ones in our barn. Just a little too personal for my taste. I actually prefer the Oscar Mayer stuff- it's all packaged up and pretty and I never really have to think about its origins. The red stuff in the package? It's "meat juice" in the words of Loralea. If I gave it all much thought I'd be a vegetarian. Dirk keeps talking about raising a bunch out in the woods so that we can process it and know where it came from. I totally agree with the thought, but the first time I ever had to look in their little piggy eyes or hear their squeals they'd SO be pets. Then we'd have like 20 geriatric piggies on feed and I'd still be buying bacon from WalMart! sigh LOL
