Looking for support group in Plano, Texas area
Looking for a support group. I'm starting to just stay inside and not go out. I"m not sure where the anxiety is coming from. I know it happened when I was anemic. I thought it was psychological. I started to push everyone away. Of course I had a 2 pints blood transfusion and realized the anxiety wasn't psychological.
I just need to stay in touch with people. I don't have very many friends. I keep to myself and isolatiing myself isn't going well for me.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need to get out of your house. Go to a local mall and walk. I am uncertain if you are post op or pre op but getting out and about will help with your wanting to isolate yourself from others. I know that when depression hits me I want to do that. When that happens I MAKE MYSELF get out and walk. Usually when I get home I have a better attitude. I did start a post about support groups around Texas. I have a group but it is in Keller, Tx. It is a drive from Plano but you are welcome to come to it if you want. There is ALWAYS a support group of some sort in the DFW area. Hopefully others will post to that thread so you can see some of the groups closer to your home. Good luck and hope to meet you face to face someday. Contact me anytime at all....i am ALWAYS around !!

Hi Vivian,
I'm nearly 3 years out. VSG 11/2008
You are so right that I need to go out.
I'm cleared for driving now, so now I can run about. I ran into some health hiccups but all is getting better.
Before surgery, I visited more often.
After the surgery, I became more reclusive because things didn't go well and I didn't want to spread bad vibes. I do that when I get sick. I just keep to myself. Yep that depression does kick in.
I'm a sun person. I'm on some current meds that make me burn something terrible with just being in the sun for a little bit.
My pre-op friends sort of just dwindled as my weight dwindled, especially if their significant other gave me compliments. I'm sure you know how that goes.
I did go to choctaw recently and stayed for hours. It felt good to just be around all the buzzing and excitement. So, I'm trying. Just recognizing what I"m doing helps.
Thank you for the post. :)

hey there....i haven't had surgery yet but i've already attended some support groups with friends...there are two that i know of in Plano...one is at plano presby (parker/tollway) and i think it's like every other wednesday or thursday (it's part of dr hamn and dr cribbins) support team...if you can find their website then you can find the support group...
Also, there is one in Plano at the Baylor Plano hospital (Plano Parkway/Preston-ish) and i believe it's like the first or second wednesday of every month...I think this one is led by a Psychologist and it's part of Dr Nicholson's clinic.
I hope this helps even though i'm a newbie to the site and haven't even had surgery
