Hey guys,
I haven't been a regular on this forum but I am needing some support and motivation.  I had surgery Dec. 09.  I have done very well but since school got out this summer I have had a difficult time with my eating habits.  I feel that I am going back to my old eating habits.  I want to eat or chew something constantly.  I try to make it ice since it's no calorie.  Luckily, I haven't gained consistently because I weigh everyday to make sure I stay on target.  I go up and down with about 5 lbs.  I have no support group here. I live in a very small town and the nearest support group is 70 miles away.  I am becoming frustrated.  Do I need to go have blood work done?  Haven't had it checked in over a year.  What's wrong with me and why am I doing this????  I am open to any advice.  Someone please help get me back on track!!!!   Thanks in advance!!!

Yes you need your labs drawn?  I recall reading where low Vitamin D can cause weight gain, I'll have to find the link.

Now to wanting to eat/chew constantly.  This you will need to get under control.  Schedule your meals and snacks and that's it.  Drink lots of fluids between your meals to hold yourself over.

You've definitely reached a time many post-ops start struggling.

Are you eating enough at eat meal, snack?  To a satisfied feeling, not overfull?  How many carbs are you eating, they will definitely cause you to feel hunger quicker.  Focus on dense protein 90% of the time, this should help keep you satisfied.

"checking" bloodwork is always a great place to start. Did you know craving ice can be a sign of an ice defeiciency? When is the last time you had your "total "labs checked? get them dome and get a copy to our DANA here-she our lab guru!!

Support is absolutely esential.Where do you live? Some of us have been know to go was further than 70 miles for girl time" Id never make it without my girls!!! Any change you can start your "own" support group? It doesn't doesn't have to be anything fancy. Put a little as in the your locl paper or put an ad on the grocery store/library bulletin board. I bet there are lots of people just like YOu!! In the meantime, please let us kow how we can help you.

Re-gain is a fear that we ALL live with.   I do believe that if you go to the Groups in the Community in the blue line above that there are ON LINE OH support groups available.    You can also ( as everyone else who has responded to this thread said ) support here on the TMB.   At least you are weighting daily and know what is going on with your body and are aware of what your "bad habits" are.    Now you can work toward changing them.   As Gina said if you are "craving" crunching ice you may have a iron deficiency.    Listen to Dana too.   She is a very wise and knowledgeable person.   If you desire crunching things ....try carrot sticks, celery, raw veggies.    They are good for you and pretty much a freebie too.   Not to mention that they will make you feel full.    Good luck to you...we all struggle from time to time with our eating.   The main thing is Be Aware of what is going into your mouth and try to make good choices.     Good luck to you and please don't be a stranger on here.

It sounds like it's your "habits" you need to work on. Track your food, make good choices. if you're eating out of stress or boredom, take a walk or go to the gym to help with that. If you slip back into your old habits, you will gain weight. Period.

Thanks everybody for your advice!!  I have a Dr. appt. tomorrow.  Hopefully, the lab results will reveal the reason I am feeling this way.   I have recieved so much encouragement and support during this journey.  I couldn't have asked for better co-workers.  But, none of them have experienced  this before.  I guess I just feel that I am all alone on this small island.  I do have a positive attitude and I know I can beat this BLAH state.
