Looking for best surgery option and surgeon
Just this year, my insurance now includes bariatric surgery coverage. As I alway**** my out of pocket within the first month for expensive infusions every other week, I am considering having bariatric surgery.
In reading about the many procedures, I have no idea which is best or poses the least risk to someone like me, born with low immunity and inability to make antibodies. Then there is the question of a surgeon - I need someone who is willing to take pause and perform the procedure that has the least risk and chance for infection, rather than someone who selects the most expensive, best-reimbursement from my insurer.
I would appreciate any insights into what is considered the best, least-risk alternatives without many complications or infections; and any recommendations on surgeons to seek (or avoid) in the north Texas area.

I don't think anyone one this board can give you "medical" advice on what surgery would be best with your underlying health issues.
I would suggest you meet with several surgeons with good reputations and have THEM explain the risks as related to your health conditions. If you take medications regularly, a malabsorptive procedure may be out of the question.
I can recommend my surgeon, Dr. Harry Meyers (972-566-4040). He spent many hours with me and my husband. He performed the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on each of us. (Dr Meyers is a VSG patient himself after he saw the success people were having).
ObesityHelp has lots of resources here for reseaching each type of surgery, but again, with your underlying health conditions I highly suggest you get the majority of your "risk" information from a medical professional.

I'll second the recommendation of talking with Dr. Harry Meyers. He did my revision from VBG to RNY when I was 500lbs, so he does take on difficult and complicated cases. I would also suggest checking with Dr. Daryl Stewart in Denton. He performs all four surgeries and would likely be able to give you a very realistic view of each of them.
Start researching all four of the surgeries, LapBand, Sleeve, RNY and DS and about their post-op requirements. Each one is different and requires different long term follow up from you. Once you narrow down which one would fit you and your life best, then pick a surgeon who has lots of experience with that particular surgery.

Do your research and do what you think is best for YOU! No one can make the decision for you. Good luck!
