IUD Mirena and RNY/weight loss

My OBGYN and PCP agreed that the IUD- Mirena would be a great option for birth control and possible regulation on my anemia. Since having RNY 4 years ago this July, my periods have become very regular and short, however, still very heavy on 2 of the 4 days. They suggested the implantation of the IUD vs. other forms of BC for several reasons:

1) absorption concerns post-op RNY with oral contraceptives
2) the reduce of heavy periods to light and non-existent

I thought I had done my research in speaking with the medical professionals, and doing my own research on the device. I started looking more today and found "horror" stories with the IUD.

Anyone here have any experience- does it cause weight gain?

I had it implanted yesterday, 5/13 and now concerned that I need more information from other RYNers who may have had this or have their experiences to share.

Thanks,
Jessica

Being an L&D nurse, I can highly recommend the IUD.  It's a great birth control method for people that already have children.  Most people do not gain weight and it should really help with your anemia issue.  Try it, what do you have to lose?  If you're not happy, you can always have it removed later on.  My friends that have them have not gained weight at all.

I had a Mirena put in in Dec.  No problems here past the first couple of months, but I was expecting that.  My cycles seem to be very regular and predictible.  I've been working on losing my pregnancy weight and I've lost about 25 lbs since the end of Dec.

Jessica, I previously tried both the nuvaring and depo injections and gained weight with both. Finally, in October, I got the Mirena IUD and I've  had no problems or complaints since.

I'm coming up on 2.5 years with the Mirena. Love it! I basically have no period worth mentioning at this point, and I like the no-maintenance aspect.
