Tornado Thursday WLS EXPRESS

Good morning,

Work is the only thing on the agenda today and I plan to schedule some vacation time.  I think I have 8 days I have not schedule yet and I am ready for some time off where I don't have plans. 

About 25 years ago a tornado hit Balch Springs in December with no warning. I just happen to take off work that day.  I  was washing dishes and heard the wind blowing under the door making a weird noise so I decided to go look out the front window, it was really green out then I heard the train noise and seen dirt hit the picture window and it dawned on me it was a tornado, I screamed and hit the ground to crawl to the hall but it was over before I made it to the hall.  When I went out, the house next doors roof was on my car clothes hanging on power lines etc. .  We had damage but nothing compared to the houses on eat side.  I always said I guess my scream made the tornado jump over us since both sides lost their roof.  We had to stay with my parents for a couple of months while repairs were done and for a while storms scared me but not anymore.

I've been close quite a few times. I've never seen one in real life though! I guess that's a good thing. We were at May Fest the year it hailed on everybody. We had been walking around and Sheldon noticed the weather change dramatically so he said we needed to leave. All I noticed was wind and the change in the color of the sky. There were different radio stations that had booths there so I figured that one of them would have broadcast the weather warnings, but they didn't. (I still don't understand that) We made it as far as Hulen mall when the sky fell out and heard of a tornado tracking I-20. We only had time to park the car in an open parking lot, not under a concrete structure, when it started hailing. We ran to the closest store and sat for what seemed like hours in the shoe department while we listened to all the glass breaking out of all the skylights around the upper floor of the mall. We were in what was then Foleys, now it's Macy's, and while all this was going on there were ladies who were still buying shoes. Afterwards we walked out into the mall and saw that the damage was pretty intense. There was about a foot of glass all the way through the mall. The tornado that almost met up with us turned and headed towards the downtown area. It wiped out a lot of buildings on 7th St. A few years later I was in the car picking the kids up from school and it started hailing. I almost couldn't drive back to the house because I was shaking so bad. I understand what PTSD feels like. I can't imagine what our soldiers, who have been in actual war zones, feel like.
I hope to go running tonight because the weather was so bad last night that I didn't get to go. We went and saw Michael and then we went out to eat. My weight loss is still what it was yesterday, but I'll take it. I put on a pair of pants this morning that didn't fit two weeks ago. They're tight but they're on. I have a closet full of clothes that are calling my name! Including a hot little dress that I WILL wear for formal night on the cruise!!!
Blake is four months today! Where did the time go? He's already getting so big.

Hey, riders!  I have not been on for a while, but have been lurking. I had been training for and participated in the March of Dimes 5K walk with my daughter this past March. It was sooooo great to actually fini**** The school raised about $3000 and next year will be better!

As for the tornados...We don't usually get tornados, but today we got one. It was not too bad. Luckily, It just uprooted some trees south of downtown.
