New To Obesity Help
Hello Texas Board. My name is Terri Sas. I live in Alvin Texas and am looking for others in Texas that have had or is in the process of having GB surgery. I am severly obese weighing in at 420 with a bmi in the high 60's. I was just approved for disability in March 2011 and told I will have medicaid. I also have bipolar, but am hoping that it will not be a factor in me trying to get surgery. I know several people who are BP and had no problem at all getting approved for surgery.. I have not looked for a dr yet for the surgery or for a consultation yet. Was going to wait until I have been on medicaid for a while first. (dont know if they look down on someone jumping into a big medical procedure as GB) Anyone on here have medicaid and if so, how long were you on it before seeking a dr for possible surgery? I am new to this... so pardon the questions. I look forward to getting to know you all. :) Have a great day!!!
Welcome Terri, There are 3 good support groups that I belong to that can give you good support and advice. One in your front yard meets at Casa Ole Hwy6/Hwy35 third Sat at 1:30pm . We next meet next Apr.16. We are both bandsters and Bypassers. Also OH Pasadena Posse meets next Mon the 11th second Mon.6:30p at Panera Bread on Fairmont/Bltwy 8 in Pasadena. We also meet second Sat. (this Sat Apr.9) at Starbucks across from Baybrook Mall in Webster just off 45So. Also University Gen. Hospital on Fannin in Houston group meets the second Wed 6:30pm at the hospital. They have a nutrtionist psychologist and are also all forms of surgery represented. Several of my friends have chemical imbalances and have to take the stronger forms of medications due to malabsorption. I strongly advise you to research all of your options and watch and listen in the online and in person support groups. You can personal Email me through the group and I will help you where I can. I live in Friendswood. My support group friends are part of the reason I have been sucessful since my surgery 17mo.s ago and 110# weight loss and much better health. Good Luck in your journey!
