Well even if I tend to be a lurker I really listen to you guys. I am now one of the many teachers without a job for next year so if anyone has any leads please let me know. 21 years so not close enough to retire and too far in to do much else.

So sorry that you are one of the many teachers who lost their job.   Have you thought about substituting....tutoring....or maybe even going and teaching in a private school.   I am sure that those thoughts have entered your mind.   I am sorry that this happened to you and know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I am right there with you.  The only difference is that I am old and could retire.  My struggle is that I would like to go OUT because I am ready not just because I was let off.  I have an lower administration job in the district . The district isn't even giving  us a choice of returning to the classroom..  We are suppose to be informed of the next set of RIF personnel by mid April.  I hold my breath til then.  I really feel for those of you that are caught off guard and no place to go.
Sorry to hear about your job loss.  I hope you can find something out there but I believe ALL Texas school districts are losing people.  Good luck.

So sorry to hear about that. Schools are in desperate times financially. I hope you are able to find something somewhere. Best wishes.

So sorry you are out of a job. My mom taught for over 20 years and moved to PA and couldn't find a teaching job. So, she took a job as an activities director at a nursing home. Not quite the job or near the pay, but she enjoyed it at least. You might look at something like that or with children in a rec center. Just a thought. Good luck!

Have you thought about going back to school? Nursing is very rewarding and we always have a job with good pay. Since you already have a degree cross degrees and excelerated programs are offered at several of the colleges here in TEXAS.

Sorry to hear .. Seems like the economy is still not picking up very much .. I had THREE people drop into my law office off the street just last week, asking if I could hire them to do something.   One was a 2nd year nursing student who needed a summer job and one of the other two was wanting to do office cleaning very desperately.

What grades do you teach, and subjects?   Do you have any bilingual ability?

If you are good with Spanish, you might look into either private language tutoring or teaching for one of the language schools like Berlitz, at least until something better comes along.

Do you have certification to teach K-6?  If so, then you might look at a job with one of those private "educational" pre-schools, like Montessori ..  For older students that need "individualized attention", one of those learning centers like Sylvan Learning Center might offer you something ..

Keep up the faith, and good luck ..
