ER
Yesterday late afternoon ended up in the local ER for severe abdominal pain. I mean it was severebecause I have a high threshold of pain and my wife new it was bad when I grab the cars and said what I was doing. Well, last Monday a similar episode had accord but after talking with a nurse and some of the othe symptoms at the time we believed it was a stomach virus. What made matters even worse I was doing the old alternating between ibuprofen and tylenol. When I took the tylenol I broke out in hives over a large portion of my body. I ended up taking a large dose of antihistmines to bring that under control.
After consulting with my allergist the conclusion is I am allergic to tylenol. So, I was not feeling very well yesterday and decided since I could not take tylenol to take ibuprofen. Well, that turned out to be a mistake in the long run. I started to have real serve abdominal pain and being the smart indidividual I am tried every possible over the counter medicine combination to combat the problem because there are many different issues it could have been sso I tried to take care of it before going to ER. Once, I completed that routine I went to searching internet to see what my next course of action to be and decided that my body is telling something is wrong here. I have always known that NSAID (non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs) can be harsh on a individual digestive system. To try make a long story short the ibuprofen was causing my problem the doctor prescribed me a non-tylenol and non-narcotic pain reliever; and to help my digestive tract heal a numbing medication combined with Maalox.
Now, I need to get with my primary care physician and find out what I am suppose to take now for headaches and minor muslce aches now that there is no over the counter pain reliever I can take. Well, I need to get off of here and get back to work.

I feeling much better and now that i know I can no longer take over the counter pain relievers I hopefully will not have anymore issues of that nature. Now, I have work with my primary care doctor and find out what he can perscribe for me to take in place of the over the counter pain relievers. The ER only wrote the script he gave me last night for a 5 day supply tramadol, which works great for me.

Allergic reactions to Tylenol are on the rise which is why the FDA request pain medication that contains acetaminophen to reduce the amount of it. The Tylenol with codiene I used to take had 325 mg. True allergic reactions are rare which is why at first my allergy specialist was thinking that I was allergic to the dye in the liquid Tylenol I took the first time. However, this second time it was Tylenol with codiene I had the allergic reaction and she is trying to research the issue more. The other problem with Tylenol is it can cause liver damage. The ibuprofen issue actually not a allergic reaction but a common side affect of irritating the stomach and small intestines, which can lead to ulcers. The pain reliever I have now until I see my primary doctor is Tramadol it is similar acting like the opiate based pain relivers without the narcotics. I see the primary care doctor Friday morning and I see the allergy specialist Thursday.

I am actually pretty much back to normal going full bore at work and schoolwork. The latest develpoments have caused me to lose sleep but I decided today to come home and take a nap. I am laying off the school work for one night. My main issue I am focusing on my health is finding a pain reliever/fever reducer I can take that will not irritate pouch and intestines. I kind of wondering how I all of sudden becoming more sensitive different things of lately. In the past I never had issues with Tylenol or Ibuprofen now within the last month I develop a allergy to Tylenol and start seeing a serious side affect to a NSAID. So , now with over the counter pain medications off limits to me. I am curious what has caused all of these changes and what are my new choices for pain relief. I know a I had one component of the liver function test come back a little abnormal from my lab work last December but it was not high enough to be concerned with at the time. I am planning to pressure the primary care to run routine blood work to see where I am at on everything we are suppose to have checked.
Never the less I am in good spirits as I just consider these lastest events a minor even though some people would say two allergic reactions that I should have sent me to the ER for treatment as being serious. I am one who does not panic and apply knowledge to the situation. I know one of the first things they would administer to me would be antihistimines and the next thing would be epinephrine administered if I developed difficulty breathing. I have access to both medicine at home do to other allergies already and so I am trained to treat my allergic reactions. The important thing no matter what is to consult with medical professionals as soon as possible. I know my first allergic reaction freaked out my wife and she called the nurses hotline my insurance has and the doctors office. I told all I needed was a good dose of antihistimines but that if we could not get the reaction under control I would use my epi-pen. I am going t talk to my allergy specialist on Thursday and see if she has found out any new information about Tylenol allergies since they are a rare occurance. My main focus though is to still my overall health and to remain on my healthy lifestyle and watching my weight as part of it. The issue that bugs me the most is I do not have time for other medical issues to sideline me for any length of time. I am busy at work, home, schoolwork, and now with the Challenger Little League baseball. I know I do need to take care of myself and try to take some time to relax and believe me I do find time for that I did that last Saturday with my 2 year old daughter spent part of the morning just relaxing out after arranging the patio furniture.
