OT: Weekend Getaway

Hi all.

I need to get away for a weekend.  There's a longer story, of course, but my brother was struck by a stray bullet last week, and on Monday, he died.  Of course, I grieved heavily on Monday and Tuesday.  I'm feeling a little better today, but know that I'll continue to grieve, in different ways, for some time to come.

Anyway, there's just no way that I'm up to the task of preaching this weekend, so I've asked someone to cover for me, and I'm planning to get out of town.  I live near Georgetown right now, which is about 20-30 minutes north of Austin.

I'm looking for some ideas on what to go, or where to go.  I do love water, so I was thinking about going down to Corpus.  I also considered Galveston, but I think the beaches at Corpus are much prettier, cleaner looking.  I'm also thinking about San Antonio... I love Sea World, and thought I might go there, and do the River Walk thing.  I know there's a lot to do in Austin, but Austin's not quite far enough "out of town" for me.  I'd also rather not head north... DFW just doesn't sound too appealing.  Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had any other ideas they might have to offer.  Something quiet and serene sounds more appealing to me than something busy and hectic, which is one reason that I'm not quite sure about San Antonio.

Food is only a small consideration.  I'm 3 weeks out, eating anything pureed, and I'll admit that I've eaten a couple of things that aren't quite "pureed" because I can "puree" them in my mouth (like fish).  Something that involves exercise (like walking the riverwalk) sounds pretty good to me.  Some place with nice trails might be good too.

Thanks,

Jonathan

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My thinking is that it's still a little cool for beaches, but San Antonio might be good. Besides the River Walk you can catch the trolley and get to the Alamo, El Mercado, and even some of the other missions.

I hope you find some peace.

 HI Jonathan,

I am sorry to hear about your brother's death.   I don't blame you for wanting to get away.   What about Louisiana or Arkansas???  Those are both really pretty states unless you want to stay in Texas.    I am with Lynne.....the coast may be a little cool with the breezes coming off the ocean this time of year.    Good luck with whatever you plan to do.  Prayers coming your way.

Hugs and blessings ~~ Vivian

If you want some peace and solitude , there is a campground that is near you called Rio Bonito that was very nice.  http://www.rbcabinresort.com/ .  I stayed there a while back.  They have a few cabins, wifi if you need it, and a very nice way to access the river.  very quiet area.

You can also stay somewhere on the Guad.  Mountain Breeze, Rio Raft, and multiple others.  They have cabins that you can stay in aswell.  Rio Raft is closer to the city of Satler and all the cabins have amazing views of the river.  They also have a pool if you wanted to take a dip in there.  Walking down River Road is nice as well.

All the cabins will have kitchenettes for food.

Theres Lost Pines resort around Bastrop.  Never stayed there, but I hear on the radio that they have a TON of nice things.

On the Coast, you can hit up Corpus, recommend staying at the Holiday Inn on the beach.  The omni might be nicer, bbut you would have to drive to get on the beach.  I only remember the walkway on Ocean Drive, but there is also touristy stuff you can do.

Port Aransas is a great place for serenity.  It might be pretty breezy on a beach right now, but would be peaceful.  Anywhere in the hill country would be nice like SA, Boerne, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, Wimberly.  There's a lot to look at and see around there.

So sorry to hear about your brother.  I hope you find some peace this weekend.
