Support Groups in DFW

Hi all!! I am about a year and a half out from surgery and I am starting to feel my old habits coming back. I was thinking that attending a support group may help me stay on track. Does anyone have suggestions for a good post-op support group in the DFW area. I live near downtown Dallas.

Also, if you have any suggestions for psychogists who deal with bariatric patients, that would be greatly appriciated too.

Mary, sorry no one from the DFW area posted to you in 2 days.  You can go to OH "community" section, then select "group directory" and type in Texas and it will pull up available groups.  YOu could then PM group leaders of ones you are interested in.  I know Vivian Prouty and Debbi Tank have active groups in the area.

as far as a psychologist, I would ask my surgeon or a pcp about that.

I have been attending two different support groups but find my favorite to be the one that meets at Arlington Memorial Hospital, The 3rd Tuesday each month at 6:30.  I like the presenters.  I understand that 2X monthly a group meets at Central Market off I30 in Ft. Worth every other Saturday.  I haven't been but may try it out on the 26th.

Come to Central Market we have a great time!!

Sorry Mary!  I haven't been on this board for a few days.  We have a Collin County group that meets once a month at IKEA.  Our next meeting is on Sat 3/5 at 9:30am.  We meet upstairs in the cafe area and hang out and talk for as long as everyone wants.

I went to Dr. Kluge at Medical City Dallas prior to and for a while after my surgery.  You might check with him to see if he could help out.  His number is 972-566-7969.

 Sorry Mary.....I haven't been here in a while.   I co-host a support breakfast that meets in Haltom City ( Sunny Street Support @ Sunny Street Cafe ).   We meet at 9 AM on saturday's...the next one being February 26th.   The address is 5000 Western Center Blvd.   I also have a Obesity Help Support Group ( Lose it 4 Life ).   We meet the first sunday of each month in Keller, Tx.    We meet at Carroll Watkin's Driving school 303 N. Main Street from 3:30 - 4:30 PM.   We would love to have you join us for both or either of these groups but it will be little drive from Dallas but I do have some that come from that area.

Hi, My name is Stacy and I am 3-months post-op.  I live north of Amarillo and had my RNY at Baylor-Dallas on Nov. 15, 2010 because my insurance wouldn't pay for it in any of the hospitals in the Texas panhandle.   I am doing well, but have been unable to find a support group in this area.  I visit the Haltom City area to see my children every couple of months or so.  Would it be ok for me to come to your meetings any time that I am in the area??

 

I am not a patient of Dr. Barker, but a fellow WLS friend is and got me hooked on a few of his support groups.
There is one tonight (Wednesday) and they have an email list you can get on.
The one's I enjoy are the cooking one's...they have samples and show you how to make the food.
