Texas vacation in June 2011
I will be vacationing in the Austin/San Antonio area sometime in mid/late June. Looking for suggestions for some of Texas' must-see attractions while we're there. We'll be a group of all adults. We're willing to travel a bit out of the area also....
What do you suggest we be sure to do??

Not sure what yall are going to want to do, but bring your swim trunks. Take a dip in Barton Springs or Hamilton pool. Beautiful locations. Maybe get stuck in traffic on i35 would be fun! The Bob Bullock Museum is awesome! If you want to know about Texas HIstory. Goto the Salt Lick BBQ. It might not be the best BBQ, but people go there for the location and the ambience. Its BYOB as well.
One of the big things to do in the summer is to go tubin down the guad, or some other river. depending on the age of the people involved, this might be fun to do. mostly college age people floating down a river drinking. I have had a blast doing it :D
Gruene would be a fun stop as well. Spend the day antiquing and visiting the crafts that are always there. Have food at the Grist Mill overlooking the river, and then listen to some music at the Gruene Hall. The oldest Dance hall in Texas. Something I always recommend people do.
In San Antonio you have the riverwalk which is the tourist trap but a lot of fun. Can also goto the Alamo which is smaller than you might think specially if you have seen the movie :D
There are also plenty of wildflowers in the area. The lady bird johnson wildflower center is located in way south austin. Can also goto Fredricksburg and visit the wildflowers there, as well as the wineries.
Hope you have fun on your vacation! If I can think up more places, I will post them. I live in Austin, so most of my ideas would be for here.

HI Laura.....I saw that no one mentioned the missions in San Antonio. They are really nice and they are free to see. There is Aquamarena Springs in San Marcos and there is also the Texas State Capital in Austin. There are also many museums in Austin and also the libraries. You may want to write or go to the official Texas website and order a Texas Travel Guide. It is free and has lots and lots of useful information on things to do and see around the great state that we live in. Hope you and your group have a wonderful time visiting our state. Have a great day.

The Natural Bridge Caverns are really great. It is smaller than Carlsbad Caverns, but because it is a living cavern, it is more beautiful. You have to do alot of walking with it, but it is a really nice place to visit. Schliterbaun is like 4 large water parks put together. Travel channel did a thing saying it was the bes****er park in the country. The river walk is a good place to go for dinner on an outside patio off the water. You can take a tour boat through it as well. The Alamo is good to see just so you can say you saw it, but you don't need to spend alot of time there, and don't do the cheesy Alamo tourist activities you may find. Sea World is better than Six Flags Fiesta Texas for adults. Both have water parks, rides, shows. Both are good. You wouldn't think Sea World would be very good not even located on a coast, but it is very good.
