Does anyone have any input on New Dimensions in San Antonio or Southwest Bariatrics in Austin that they can give me? Also, my mom mentioned Dr. Cavasos in San Antonio as well. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

My surgeon is with SW Bariatrics and was awesome. I really like everyone in the group that I have met, and his nurses in the office try to make me feel like they know me when I come in. They have calmed or worked around my fears so that I was happy. I couldnt be happier with the outcome of my choice.
If I am understanding right, you are on your first week of your diet, so your surgery date is sometime in February? If so, I wouldn't change a thing at this late of a date. I would stay with him, and then find someone here in Austin. If you are just starting the process, I would find someone in Austin just so you will have less to travel when you get out of the Hospital.
I had a friend who went with Dr. Ganta, and I was thinking about his practce, but he is WAY south Austin off Brodie. SW. Bariatrics is all over Austin and Round Rock. My appointments are in Seton RR.
Good Luck with your surgery!! Its a life saver!

Ben, I have to do a 3 month diet for insurance and won't be having my surgery till sometime in May - so I'm just starting. I am worried about what will happen if I have complications, etc.
I never went to a SW bariatrics seminar. I wish more people would leave reviews for their surgeon, but this definitely helps me to decided. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You've had such wonderful success - congratulations and what an inspiration!

I havent checked to see how to leave feedback :D I will get that done tho.
If you are still that far out, my recommendations would be to move to an Austin surgeon, so you are closer to everything specially if there is an emergency, and you would hve to take less time off for followups.
OR talk to your surgeon in SA and see if he has any partners in the Austin area that can do your follow ups and stuff if you wanted to stay with your SA doc.
At this point tho, it never hurts to meet as many surgeons as you can to make sure you feel comfortable.
Also find out about the support groups that your surgeon will recommend. SW Bariatrics referred me to either the one at 38th and lamar seton, or the one in RR Seton. I goto the RR one as I hate traffic :D You can goto one of those meetings as well and get a lot of feedback on a bunch of different surgeons and groups and meet a bunch of people who are going thru the process. See if your surgeon has any groups he would refer you to in Austin. (Would probably be the same meetings, but you never know)

Dr. Pilcher is my Surgeon and I absolutely love him! I cannot rave about him to enough people.
He is the most professional, caring doctor I have ever come across. You are in good hands with him. I live in Austin too but I make the drive to San Antonio whenever I have an appointment. I don't know about Southwest Bariatrics so I cant really offer much info on that. But I personally think you would be extremely happy if you stayed with Dr. Pilcher and New Dimensions.

It is so nice hear from you. He really does seem like the most caring doc I've met. What made you drive to SA to see him? Congrats to you as well for all the weight lost!
Like I said above, I wish more people would post reviews for their doc, but I guess their out living their lives. Do you happen to know of any patients here who have used him for RNY?
Thank you for writing : )

I don't, no. Anyone who I know who has gone with Dr.Pilcher (family) has had the Lap-Band. I'm in the process of getting a revision after having several fallbacks with the band. Dr.Pilcher did not do my LapBand surgery but he did my Follow-up visits, Now he will do My Sleeve.
San Antonio really isn't all that far a drive, especially if you're only doing it once a month, it's maybe 1 1/2 hours. He is also my moms surgeon so we go together. I go the distance for an amazing doctor, and his amazing staff because sometimes it's hard to find a doctor like him. He's definitely worth it.
& Thank you...
I hope I've been of some help.
