Hi, I just had my surgery a month ago and wanted to ask if you could share info on support groups in the city of Houston.  I live near downtown/the Heights.  I went to the one at Memorial Hermann and discovered it was a sales pitch where the dietician just wanted to sell vitamins to us!  I went to one meeting at UGH but want to attend more.  Thank you!

That's a shame that the memorial hermann group has turned into that.  I went 5 years ago and it was a great support group.  They used to have good speakers each month and lots of talk amongst the group members.  We all even went on a cruise.  I hate to hear it's gone downhill.  Maybe some others will know of groups near where you live.

Good luck!

I got to two support groups. One is Pasadena on 2nd Monday nights. We meet at the Panera Bread on Fairmont Parkway at 6:30pm. This one is OH sponsored, we have topics each month. The other in on 2nd Saturdays at 10amin Webster, meeting at Starbucks on West Bay Area Blvd. in front of JoAnn's. It's very informal, started by a couple of ladies who work and can't make the Monday night meetings. It isn't OH sponsored, as such, and it's still a small group but I like the informality of it.

Feel free to join either!

Oops...sorry I missed this!

Just show up to either meeting, you'll be more than welcome. PM me and we can exchange emails and phone numbers and I'll remind you of the meetings.

Found an Overeater's Anonymous meeting last night and found it to be helpful.  I'm also going to check out other meetings.  Thanks to those of you who shared info about groups.

Is anyone aware of anything on the west side - Cypress, Katy, 290 area? I was not impressed with Memorial Hermann's support group either. And, believe it or not, for a Center of Excellence, the only contact I had with a NUT was about 5 minutes the day after surgery in the hospital while I was all doped up on pain meds. I guess I was supposed to be thankful she left a two-page Xeroxed list of food I could eat once I got to the clear liquid stage! Thank goodness for OH and the good members who have shared their experiences.

Contact Sean Nichols on the OH board. He runs the Katy Crew not sure of the time and place. He also runs the Pasadena Posse at Panera Bread in Pasadena that Dee and I belong too.

I attend the support group at The Davis Clinic (right next door to Memorial Hermann - Memorial City). Last week was my first meeting. Dr. Garth was supposed to be there, but he got tied up in surgery. Regardless, it was very informative and I got lots of good information.

I will check to see if you have to be a patient of one of their surgeons to attend.

There is also the Cy-Fair Hospital support group in the Northwest area. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7PM. Contact Dee Siddens for more info and the physical address. It is open to everyone....any surgery type, pre-op and post-op.

Here is Dee's email address.......

She will put you on the monthly email reminder list and will send you an email a few days before the meetings so you don't forget them.
