My mom is interested in getting the band (I've had mine almost a year) and she lives in Houston.  Just starting to help her look for good doctors in her area. Any recs on who to go to or who to stay away from would be much appreciated.

Highest Wt: 274 / LAP-Band Low: 180 / Sleeved at 233 / Goal: 160!

There are a lot of good doctors in the Houston area.  The Davis are one set.  I've heard their office staff is hard to work with, but they are good.  I would also recommend Dr. Terry Scarborough or Sherman Yu or Dr. Erik Wilson.  I think Dr. Spivak and Dr. Spiegel do a lot of surgeries also.  I know a lot of folks that used Dr. Collier in Conroe also.

That's wonderful that your mother is going to have bariatric surgery -- she must have seen your progress on the band.

Has she looked into Gastric Sleeve?  I was going to do the band, too, but when I did more research, I found out that 3 out of 5 band patients have to undergo another surgery at some point in their lives due to complications; the rate increases as you get older.  The sleeve is safer than the bypass with better results than the band.

I had my surgery done with Dr. Terry Scarborough.  But like the other post said, Dr. Erik Wilson of Houston is also one of the best surgeons in Texas.  Good luck!
