Random question for sleevers... are you able toor should you take asprin?? As a by-passer we cannot and should takeasprin and I was curious if it was the same for a sleever. Afriend who has a sleeve has been taking 4-6 Excedrin migraine at a time and I was concerned.

The answer is "it depends". Every surgeon has their own criteria, I know the draw of the DS for many people is that with a VSG, you can take aspirin and other NASIDs because their is no blind stomach. At the same time, some surgeons suggest that you do not.

I take Advil as needed, but I had an issue with it preop because I took 1600 mg a day for over 3 years..and it kind of irritated my stomach, so I can't take it regularly anymore.

MEGGIE-just to confuse things further-please ask your friend to read the bottle and follow the DIRECTIONS, unless otherwise specified by the PHYSICIAN (and I bet was NOT). IMHO nobody should take over 2 Excedrin Migraine, in a single dose, period. The excess pills/caps won't help the headache, and will just choke up the body organs, making the med harder to excrete and throw off-whether you had ANY surgery or not...not THAT answered your question....

Meggie - as you know King and I both are sleevers.  Our surgeon said that we could take any pain reliever we wanted at the proper dosage WITH FOOD.  He strongly discouraged taking NSAIDS on an empty stomach for ANYONE whether they are surgically altered or not.
