LAPBAND/Tricare questions San Antonio TX
Hello everyone, my name is Stefanie and i am 29 years old.
I am new to this forum and had a couple of questions for members that have underwent LapBand surgery in San Antonio TX.
My husband is active duty and our insurance is TriCare.
I have been struggling with my weight for a couple of years now and i had my last child in 2007. Since then it has been really hard to get the weight off. My PCM has but in a referral for Bariatric surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Now i have heard from ppl in my community that also had the surgery they went to a facility off base and were approved after turning in the paper work maybe one week later. Well approved or denied i must say.
My question is what is the difference between going to Wilford Hall and going to an off base facility.
How long are the waiting times? Could i make an appointment for a consultation with a surgery clinic here in San Antonio and let them take over the paperwork?
I would appreciate to get some answers to this topic.

My DIL had gastic bypass in July 2010 off base. My son (at the time) was station in Ft. Worth--I know she contacted my Dr. (Dr. Stewart) here in Denton. He sent her a video and paper work to return to him--she had some test to do--some she had already done--It only took like a couple of months-maybe less for her to get scheduled. DIL and son are now in Lawton, OK--but I sure she would be willing to answer any of your questions. PM me with your phone # or email and I will pass it along to her.
