Now I know

Basically like a bowel clean out. You drink some stuff, it washes out tthrough your intestines and on out. If there is no solid waste it is a piece of cake. I have heard horror stories from people who were eating up till their surgery of their horrible night on the toilet. I stuck to Dr's preop plan, did the bowel prep, pottied 3 times...piece of cake!!!You need to have the cleanest intestines you can for surgery, helps prevent infection. If this isnt right, it is my understanding, maybe one of the nurses will chime in!

I'm on the pre-op drinks also - next Tuesday, I switch to clear fluids and then do the bowel "cleanse" at 4. I don't have the name in front of me, but it's magnesium something. The nurse at the hospital told me to stay at home once I drink it!
