I used to read this posts going gosh another person complaining about liquid diet.  It can't possibly be THAT bad.  Well I joined that club yesterday, and found out that it IS that bad.  The first day of liquids really tested me.  I am proud to say that I didn't cheat, and the scale says I'm down 3 lbs.  Probably because I hardly ate anything yesterday.

I had slin fast nightmares.  That crap is really gross.  Luckily they gave me some other options to choose from.  Off to the store I go this morning.  Maybe this headache will go away now.

It sucks, but you'll be done before you know it.  And it WILL be worth it when you're able to have your surgery.  Hang in there, and stick it out.  You can get through this...

Check at GNC stores in your area (call them) and see if they carry "Max protein".  Only certain ones do but I've never met anyone that doesn't really like Max.  The chocolate is great-it doesn't have that "whey" aftertaste.  I mix mine with one cup of Hood's Calorie Countdown CHOCOLATE dairy product (in the milk section at walmart), then I throw in a few frozen strawberries and a splash of sugarfree coconut syrup (world market) and blend and freeze.  In about an hour it's ready to eat like ice cream.

I went and got some carnation no sugar.  I tastes so much better, but all they had was chocolate.  Yes I'm weird I don't care for chocolate in the least bit, but if I don't have to do slim fast I'll tolerate it.  I also picked up some glucerna meal bars to try.  I hear they are pretty good.

Slim fast - blech !

Glad you found something that tastes better.

My 2-week pre-op diet was liquid only and I think it was easier to just drink my meals than eat a small amount and tease my stomach LOL.

Hang in there - it gets better after the first 3 days!  Then by the time it really gets old you are ready for surgery and know it is almost over.

Ditto what Sarah said! The first 3 days were the hardest. I had a headache day 2 and 3 and would have eaten my leg if I could have reached it! But starting day 4 I just wasn't hungry and food wasn't tempting at all. I had the Bariatric Advantage meal replacement shakes...nasty! But even they lost their 'ickiness' and were just something I had to drink to get it over with, like a dose of medicine. Remember this whole process doesn't care if you 'like' it or not, you HAVE to do it, it's what you signed up for! So make up your mind now that there are going to be lots of things you don't like the taste of or the texture of but you have to eat/drink it to be successful in the long run. I promise it's all worth it!

I hear you! This is Day 6 for me. The first 4 days were tough -- I had horrible headaches the entire time. Today was a new day, and I woke up feeling better and not at all hungry.

I'm drinking Bariatric Advantage, which is what The Davis Clinic asks us to drink. I've tried makign it thick like a milkshake...still no good, but I figure I can do anything for 2 weeks. People warned me how hard it was going to be to be on liquids prior to Christmas, but I am trying to have the mindset that enjoying all that food is what got me here in the first place. Perhaps next Christmas I won't miss the "holiday" foods and will be well on my way to making healthier choices.

Good luck!

My problem right now is that I'm not getting enough calories in which makes me have no energy and want to sleep all day.  I need to figure out how to get the calories.  I don't care for chocolate and that is the only flavor Carnation I could find, and the bars they want me to eat are way to sweet and hurt my teeth.  I'd rather be on full liquids, clear liquids, or atkins type diet.

I love Worldwide protein ( 0 sugar,160cal) it comes in choc van straw. Also Oh Yeah 260 cal low sgar comes in choc van and straw. Someone on the board talks about a chicken soup protein drink...maybe they can chime in.

The preop liquid diet diet also make the preop prep the night befor sugery so much easier.
